WELLSVILLE - IRENE LEISHMAN, OUR DEAR LITTLE MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER AND WIFE PASSED AWAY JULY 21 AT LEGACY HOUSE AT THE AGE OF 94. SHE WAS BORN IN OWENDALE, IDAHO IN 1917 TO JENNIE FISHER ANDERSON AND AXEL EDWIN ANDERSON. SHE IS THE MOTHER OF FOUR CHILDREN GARY (DECEASED) CAROL LEISHMAN, ELOISE (CLAIR) OBRA Y, JIM, (GAE) LEISHMAN AND MIKE (CONNIE) LEISHMAN. SHE HAS 13 GRANDCHILDREN, 24 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN AND 3 GREAT-GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.
SHE ATTENDED SCHOOLS IN DECLO FOR HER EARLY YEARS AND LATER IN 1928 THEY MOVED TO LOGAN WHERE SHE FINISHED HER SCHOOLING IN THE LOGAN SCHOOL DISTRICT. SHE MET THE LOVE OF HER LIFE KEITH C. LEISHMAN ON CHRISTMAS EVE OF 1933 AND THEY WERE MARRIED JUNE 19, 1935 IN THE LOGAN TEMPLE. DAD BUILT THEIR HOME THE YEAR THEY WERE MARRIED WHERE THEY RESIDED FOR 76 YEARS UNTIL MOVING TO LEGACY RETIREMENT HOME IN APRIL OF THIS YEAR. THEY JUST CELEBRATED THEIR 76TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY THIS PAST JUNE.
MOM WAS ALWAYS A HARD WORKER KEEPING HER HOME CLEAN AND IMMACULATE AND WANTED EVERYTHING IN ITS PLACE. SHE HAD A BEAUTIFUL YEAR AND SHE LARGE GARDEN AND WOULD BOTTLE ALL THE PRODUCE SHE COULD AS SHE WANTED TO BE PREPARED IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY AND WOULD ALWAYS SHARE WITH OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS.
WE REMEMBER ALL MOM’S GOOD FOOD AND SHE ALWAYS HAD WONDERFUL MEALS PREPARED. WHENEVER ANYONE WOULD DROP BY HER HOME, SHE MOST AL WAYS HAD SOMETHING DELICIOUS TO OFFER THEM. WE KIDS REMEMBER COMING HOME FROM SCHOOL ALMOST DAILY TO THE SMELLS OF FRESHLY BAKED HOMEMADE BREAD, OR FRESHLY BAKED CAKE OR COOKIES, AT AGE 93 SHE WAS STILL BAKING BREAD WEEKLY AND ALSO PIES AND CAKES UNTIL LEAVING HER HOME IN APRIL. EVERY SUNDAY AFTERNOON, THE FAMILY ALWAYS LOOKED FORWARD TO THOSE YUMMY TREATS OF PIE AND ICE CREAM, OR SOME FANCY DESSERT SHE HAD MADE FOR OUR VISIT.
SHE WAS A BEAUTIFUL SEAMSTRESS MAKING ALL HER CLOTHS, HER CHILDREN'S CLOTHS AND EVEN THE GRANDCHILDREN WERE RECIPIENTS OF SEWN ITEMS FROM HER... MOM WAS VERY ACTIVE IN THE CHURCH AND SERVED IN MANY CALLINGS. SHE AND DAD SERVED FAITHFULLY WEEKLY IN THE TEMPLE DOING HUNDREDS OF SEALING'S.
MOM RAISED HER FAMILY TO KNOW RIGHT FROM WRONG AND TAUGHT THEM HONESTY AND THE VALUE OF HARD WORK. SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER HUSBAND OF 76 YEARS, (KEITH C.
LEISHMAN). SHE IS THE MOTHER OF FOUR CHILDREN. HER SON GARY PRECEDED HER IN DEATH ruST LAST MONTH, AND A GRANDSON GREG OBRA Y, PLUS HER PARENTS AND FOUR BROTHERS, HERB, HAROLD, MARTIN, ELMER ANDERSON AND A SISTER, BERTHA WILLES.
THE FAMILY WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE WONDERFUL CAREGIVERS AT LEGACY AND ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH HOSPICE OF UTAH (TAMMY, LISA AND DANA).
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, July 26 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel, 34 East Center Street in Logan.
