Irene Krebs Murray passed away on July 12, 2018. She was an exceptional woman who spent every moment of her 89 years sharing everything she had with those she loved and knew. Irene embodied the virtues of family, work, charity and faith throughout her life. She was deeply loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
Irene’s life began on February 15, 1929. She was the youngest of eight children born to John and Martha Krebs. Irene grew up on a farm in North Logan Utah, and learned the value of hard work from a young age. She graduated from South Cache High School and sang the school song proudly to all who would listen. Irene loved to share stories of her childhood adventures that often contained mischievous and humorous anecdotes from her teenage years.
Irene was introduced to Clair Murray in high school and their love story began when she invited him to a Sadie Hawkins dance. They were married on April 15, 1948, in the Logan LDS Temple and were blessed with six children: Kevin (Gae) Murray, Karen (Kim) Evans, Tammy (Michael) Tullis, Jolene (Cory) Wood, Jason (Rachel) Murray, and Jeff (Rose) Murray.
Irene and Clair found immense joy in being the grandparents of 27 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. Whenever any of them stopped by, they were treated to Aggie ice cream and endless affection. Family meant everything to them.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Irene had a lifelong and deep devotion to the gospel. She loved and influenced many children as she served in the Primary for over 40 years. One of the highlights of her life was serving with Clair in the first group of missionaries at the Wyoming Mormon Handcart Visitors Center. The experiences she had there, including the opportunity to meet with President and Sister Hinckley, strengthened her testimony of missionary work. She never missed an opportunity to share her testimony of the gospel. In her home she proudly displayed a large map with pins marking all of the places around the world where her children and grandchildren served LDS missions.
She will be fondly remembered for the delicious food she lovingly prepared and generously shared with family, friends, and neighbors. She had an incredible memory and could remember the smallest details of her life experiences. We will miss hearing the stories she told of what North Logan was like when she was a child. She was proud of her Swiss heritage, loved listening to Swiss music and yodeling, and enjoyed using the handful of Swiss words that she knew.
Irene treasured babies and children, riding horses, roller skating, laughing, playing games, sewing, celebrating holidays with family, and talking on the phone with her cherished friends. She had a gift for instantly making people feel welcome and loved. She appreciated nature and sunsets and could often be found sitting in front of the windows in her beloved home enjoying the beautiful mountain view.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her children and their families, and by her sister, Ruth Robinson.
The family would like to thank Dr. Matthew Welter, Dr. Jared Bunch, and the Access Hospice team for their exceptional care, support, and friendship.
At Irene’s request, her family will be holding an open house for friends and family who would like to visit. It will be held on Wednesday, July 25, at Allen Mortuary, 420 E 1800 N, North Logan, Utah, between the hours of 6:00 -7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Irene requested that you make lasting memories by doing something fun with your family.
