Irving S. Dunn

October 28, 1923 — May 18, 2009

Irving S. Dunn, our cherished husband, father, brother and friend passed away on May 18, 2009 at the Logan Nursing home. Irving was born in his family home October 28, 1923in Logan, Ut. He was the eighth of ten children born to Charles Welch and Lula Magdalena Schenk Dunn.
He graduated from Logan high school in 1941. He then began his studies at Utah State Agricultural School. Irv was very active in ROTC and joined the Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant and served as a meteorologist.
In 1945 he met the love of his life, Shirley Nadine Peterson in Reno Nevada. They planned a temple wedding, but then unexpectedly he received orders to ship out in 3 days. After a whirlwind wedding Irv left for Chenute Field in Illinois, and Shirley followed shortly after by train. Irv received orders to leave for Japan, but thankfully on that very day World War II ended.
Shirley and Irving were sealed for time and all eternity to one another in the Logan Temple on July 11th 1946. Irving then finished his masters and became Assistant Professor at Colorado State University. On sabbatical leave to Stanford University he finished and received his doctorate in Civil engineering. During his career Irv authored and co-authored many recognized civil engineering books. He served as the Associate Dean of Engineering at Utah State University.
Irv was very active in the LDS Church, he held many callings and had a great love for the scriptures. He was a kind, loving, and family oriented man who taught love by example. He held a very strong testimony of his faith.
Irv loved sitting his family down for impromptu accordion concerts, since we were a captive audience. He loved playing the piano, and participating in Barber shop quartets.
He loved sports -tennis, cross country running, basketball, bowling, he was passionate about everything in his life and his golf game was no exception. He loved the game and any tee-time was a good time.
