Isobel Bannatyne

December 23, 1924 — April 4, 2015

Our angel mother and grandmother, Isobel Steel Bannatyne, returned to her Heavenly Father and beloved Savior, aged 90, on April 4, 2015 after a long, eventful and faithful life. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland on 23 December 1924 to William and Mary Bannatyne, she came to America in the midst of World War II with her baby as a 19 year-old mother and wife to follow her husband who had been called home from Europe for the draft. She loved America and all that it stood for.

She was a remarkable and tender mother with unwavering love for her children and grandchildren with a never-ending stream of projects and adventures to make them happy and show her love for them.

She found the restored gospel at the age of 14 at a Church meeting in a tiny attic chapel in Belfast, Northern Ireland and from that moment her life was touched by it and never deviated from it during her long and eventful life. Her greatest life work and effort was to instill within her children and grandchildren the same love for the restored gospel that she was blessed with.

She had an unwavering love for the Savior and for the Prophet Joseph Smith as well as the early leaders of the Church and read the Journal of Discourses from cover to cover multiple times, and especially enjoyed the sermons of Brigham Young.

Her gracious home was filled with the love and tenderness of a stalwart Mother In Zion and was the favored destination of children and grandchildren who spent their happiest hours with her.

She owned and operated the Logan Book Exchange from age 60 until her retirement at 75, and loved her customers and being a business owner.

She loved her life despite its many challenges and at times heartaches, and looked forward eagerly to reuniting with her parents and family and most especially to a tender reunion with her baby daughter Alma who died soon after birth, who she will now be able to raise in peace and light when the Savior’s trump shall sound and the great work of resurrection rolls forth. Her children and grandchildren adore her and also look forward to an eternity of joy, peace and happiness with her.

A viewing will be held at Allen Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah on Friday, April 10 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A family internment will be held on Saturday in the Clarkston, Utah cemetery.

Her children include Lauralee Catherine Lucile Bannatyne Stevenson Olson Elliott, Logan, UT; Lorayne Gay Karlsson (Hans), Eden, Sweden; Dr. Robert Louis Bannatyne Stevenson (Mickey) Logan, UT; Alma Bannatyne Stevenson (deceased); and, Dr. Mark William McKenzie Bannatyne (Tatiana), Indianapolis, IN. She has 20 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren with one great- great-grandchild on the way.

We look forward to a joyful reunion with our angel mother and grandmother in an eternity of happiness and peace in the Kingdom of our Heavenly Father.
