Ivan Blaine Neilson
Logan, Utah - Ivan Blaine Neilson, 77, passed away Jan. 16, 2013 at the Yuma Regional Medical Center in Yuma Arizona.
Ivan was born in Richmond, Utah to Olaf & Edna Coley Neilson on April 26, 1935. He was raised in Richmond and attended North Cache High.
Ivan married the late Gloria Gilgen in 1953 in Logan, Utah. They were later divorced. They were blessed with six wonderful children, four sons, Donald (Janet) Neilson of Twin Falls, Idaho, Paul Blaine (Leila) Neilson of Logan, Utah, Kelly Kay (LaDawn) Neilson of Wellsville, Utah and Daniel Ivan (Tammy) Neilson of Mendon, Utah; and two daughters, Julie Ann (Roger) Blechert of Wellsville, Utah and Lauralee (Rex) Womack of Hyrum, Utah. He later married his sweetheart, Rebecca Ann Pitcher in 1981 and her two sons joined the family.
Ivan worked for Logan City as a Heavy Equipment Operator and Sanitation Engineer/Landfill Manager for 27 years and retired in 1999. Over his lifetime, he worked for numerous companies frequently working two to three jobs at a time to ensure that his family’s needs were met. After retirement, he enjoyed his winters in Yuma, Arizona, summers in Island Park, Idaho and the rest of the year in Logan, Utah. Ivan actively served as the Vice-President of the Magnolia Village Home Owners Association in Yuma, Arizona from 2005 – 2010. He could be found helping others in his neighborhood each and every day.
Ivan was a member of the LDS Church. He loved life, his wife, family get-togethers, helping others, hunting, fishing, working with his hands, being outdoors, squirrels, the Utah State Bird, his daily walkabouts, reading, scouting for special rocks, making whirly gigs, spending money (lol), and making each home a great place to be. Ivan taught his kids to work at a young age and to put family first. He was very giving and always put others ahead of himself.
He is survived by his loving wife Rebecca Ann Pitcher Neilson; his six children; one step-son Lance (Susan) Crockett Hyrum, Utah and one step daughter-in-law Cheray Crockett Logan, Utah; one brother Russell (Gloria) Neilson of Ogden, Utah and one sister Helen (Roy) Draper of West Point, Utah. Mother-in-law Donna Lou Pitcher of Smithfield, two brother-in-laws Maurice (Linda) Pitcher of Ogden, Utah and Paul (Elaine) Pitcher of Ogden, Utah and one sister-in-law Marilyn (Alan) Grunig of Hyde Park, Utah. He had 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Ivan experienced a joyous reunion as he joined his parents, brother Harold Neilson, step-son Chad Crockett and father-in-law Richard Pitcher.
Ivan was dearly loved and will be missed by all.
