Ivan Perry returned home to his Heavenly Father Saturday, February 8, 2014, peacefully surrounded by family following a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He lived a long life, was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
He swept his eternal sweetheart off her feet at the tender age of 16. Ivan gave Dawn a special engagement present, a’56 Thunderbird. One of their favorite songs was “Devoted to You”, by The Everly Brothers, which captures the essence of their relationship. Ivan and Dawn were married on November 10, 1961 in Ogden, Utah (later solemnized in the Los Angeles temple), and were devoted to each other for their 52 year marriage, which will continue for eternity.
Ivan graduated Ben Lomond High School in 1959, completed his undergraduate degree in manufacturing engineering at Weber State University in 1973, and later earned an M.B.A. at University of Phoenix. He worked for many years at Morton Thiokol, Klune Industries, and worked as an engineering consultant for other defense and aerospace companies. He also worked as an usher at Energy Solutions Arena, which he loved for the opportunity to socialize with the many people he came into contact with.
Ivan held several positions in the church. Some of his favorites involved working with the scouts where he could engage in a few of his favorite activities. Ivan loved spending time outdoors. He loved spending time with his family, especially while boating, hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding, and camping. Ivan also loved football, especially the Denver Broncos. You could often find him glued to the TV watching the Broncos.
Ivan was generous to a fault. He was always willing to help someone out when they needed help. He was generous with time, money and love. He was always quick with a joke, a helping hand or a hug if someone was feeling down. Even towards the end of his days he still managed to make others smile.
Ivan is survived by his wife, Dawn Ohlson Perry of Hyrum; six children, Scott (Tim) of Chicago, Sherrill Saunders of Kaysville, Suzanne (Garrett) Waltrip of North Ogden, Dawna of Castle Rock, Colorado, Alan (Brandy) Perry of Payson, Sean (Stephen) of Chicago; one brother, Alan (Pam) of Roy, two sisters, Alene (Don) Barker of Salem, West Virginia, Mary (Gary) Baird of Taylor; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Elwood (Janet) Ohlson. He was preceded in death by his father, Alan Merrill Perry, his mother, Elsie Marion Perry, his son-in-law, Michael Saunders, his father-in-law, Donald Crandall Ohlson, and his mother-in-law, Stella Irene Harris.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 11th, at the Hyrum 15th Ward Chapel, at 455 East 100 South, Hyrum, Utah. Friends may visit family from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., prior the services, and from 6 – 8 p.m., Monday evening at Allen-Hall Mortuary, at 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah. Interment will be at the Hyrum City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at
