Ivan J Henrie

Ivan J Henrie passed away at his home on November 30,2005, following a lengthy illness spanning several years during which he was lovingly cared for by his wife, Renee.

He was born on February 22, 1927, in Tremonton, Utah, to George Byron and Arvella Olsen Henrie. His early years were spent on the family dry farm in Juniper, Idaho. His family then moved to Snowville, Utah where they lived for four years. When Ivan was 15, his family moved to Logan. He graduated from Logan High School and later attended Utah State University. During World War II he served in the Navy. Following the War and a mission for the LDS Church to Houston, Texas, he married Jane Renee Alder of Preston, Idaho, on September 20, 1950, in the Logan Temple. He would later serve a proselyting mission with Renee in North Carolina.

Ivan was active in the LDS Church throughout his life and served in many capacities
including temple officiator and service in four bishoprics. The calling he loved most was in the scouting program in the Logan7th Ward where he was known for his tireless effort in assisting young men attain the rank of Eagle Scout. For his years of service in the Boy Scouts of America he received numerous awards including the District Award of Merit,Cache Valley Council Scoutmaster of the Year, and Silver Beaver. When he was no longer strong enough to carry a back pack, he had the privilege of teaching primary.

He loved to work with his hands and was a machinist and craftsman by trade. He produced many beautiful wood carvings and other works of wood and metal. He loved to vacation with his family. Some of his family's most loved memories are of the annual family vacations to Yellowstone National Park. Ivan was known by all for his sense of humor and always had a joke or funny story to tell those he met throughout the day.

Ivan is survived by his wife Renee, sons Gary (Paula), Cordell (Debra) and Lynn "Hank" (Koula), son-in-law Kenneth Horner, sisters LaRue (Leon) Nelson, Eunice (Don) Bargholthous and Fay Keller, brothers Melvin "Carlos" (Sharon) Henrie and Darwin (Angela) Henrie, sisters-in-law Delene (Reese) Ward, Wetona (Ken) Olson, and Colleen (Richard) Magleby, brothers-in-law Emer Wilson and Val Dean (Ardis) Alder, 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughters Shauna Homer and Lisa Henrie, grandson Curtis Homer, great-granddaughter Amy Petersen, brothers Verl and Argyle, and his sister Leah Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, Dec. 5, at the Logan 7th Ward, 565 East 100 South, Logan. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment at Logan Cemetery.
