Iva Pearl Smart Schenk
November 4, 1925 — August 28, 2008
NIBLEY, UTAH: Iva Pearl Smart Schenk, 82, of Nibley, returned to the loving arms of her Father in Heaven and back by the side of her “Hubby” Darrell A. Schenk on August 28, 2008. Pearl passed way from the complications of a stroke while residing at the Sunshine Terrace Care Center in Logan.
Pearl was born in Anson, Texas on November 4, 1925 a daughter of James Giddion and Nola Ann Long Smart. She was second in the pecking order of 11 brothers and sisters of whom she dearly loved, each and every one.
She grew up in Texas and New Mexico where she learned the value of hard work being side by side with her father and mother in the cotton fields and doing other farm related tasks. Pearl graduated from the High School in McCally Texas. She married Darrell schenk on June 23, 1945 and they were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple on March 2, 1949. Over their lifetime mother and dad lived and raised their family in College Ward, Providence and Nibley where they retired.
Mother was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved her Father in Heaven dearly. She served in many church positions during her life.
She is survived by her children, Allen Darrell and DeAnn Schenk; Douglas Ray and Betty Schenk; Gregory Lynn and Esther Schenk; Velaine and William Arndt; JaNae and Jeffery Anderson; Jerry Lee and Jackie Schenk; Earl James and Iris Schenk; Diane and Troy Fredrickson. All of Pearl’s children live in Cache Valley except Velaine who lives in Henderson, NV, JaNae who lives in Kennewick, WA and Earl who lives in Garland, Utah.
Mother Pearl is also survived by her sisters who live “back home” in Texas, Opal Loveta, Mary Lou, Martha Marie, Hattie Lenora, Wanda Jewel, Malta Jean and Barbara Louise, 49 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell, daughters-in-law, Joan and Kim, grandson, Lucas Roy Schenk, parents, brothers and sisters , Ruby Ann, James Giddion Jr., Joseph Vernon, brothers-in-law, Donald Ray Jones, Spencer Lee Lilles, Archie LaVay Boiles and George Henry Seaton.
The family would like to express our thanks to one and all who have taken care of our mother in any way and especially the staff at Sunshine Terrace. May God bless you all.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 2nd at 12:00 pm in the Allen-Hall Mortuary. There will be a viewing Monday evening from 6-8 pm and on Tuesday from 10:30 - 11:30 am. Interment will be in the Millville Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
