J. Golden Poulson

June 2, 1928 — March 31, 2017

J Golden Poulson was born to Mary Haight and Joel Milton Poulson June 2, 1928, in Richfield, Utah. He received an AA degree from the Branch Agricultural College of the University of Utah, a BS degree from Utah State University, an Air Force commission at University of Utah and later a Masters of Urban Affairs at Old Dominion Univ., Norfolk, VA. J married “My Marianne Gibbons” in the LDS, Salt Lake City Temple—she would be the one to keep the focus on the family.

J was an Air Force pilot and loved his service to our country. He often remarked that the Air Force was the best travel agent ever: he could never go back to the farm after seeing Paris! While serving in the military J was escorted into the East Berlin sector after World War II by a Russian officer, saw the Berlin Wall being built, walked the French D-Day beaches of Utah, Juno, Sword and Omaha, and shed a tear over the 10,000 grave markers at Normandy. He served as a staff officer at Bien Hoa, Vietnam and flew more than 130 combat missions from August 1967 to August 1968. He witnessed the Tet offensive in January where he and eight fellow officers were saved by a Leutenant who refused to let the Viet Cong penetrate their unprotected base until a cavalry of helicopter gunships arrived at dawn.

J returned to Southeast Asia as a KC-135 tanker aircraft commander and later served as the Air Force representative to the US Amy in Ft. Eustis, VA (he loved Williamsburg at Christmas time). He retired to Logan, Utah in 1975 after more than 5500 hours in a KC-135. After he retired from the Air Force he taught ROTC in Brigham City at the Indian School from 1975 to 1980 and from 1980-1984 at RAF Upper Heyford in Oxfordshire England.

J loved his family, playing Bridge, traveling, hunting and his association with the American Legion in Logan and the Lundstrom Park 3rd ward.

J Golden Poulson is survived by his children Renee (Colin) White, Karen Wood, Diane (Jay) Hamilton, Steven J. (Christy) Poulson, his grandchildren Ben White, Cheryl White, Matthew (Chelsea) Williams, Caroline Williams, Nicole (Anthony) Clark, Sean (Sarah) Hamilton, Luke Hamilton, Andrew Hamilton, Jillian Hamilton, Grace Poulson and Sophie Poulson and his great-grandchildren Olivia Williams and Ivy Clark.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, April 3, 2017 at the Logan City Cemetery, 1000 North 1200 East Logan, UT. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.allenmortuaries.net
