John Robert “JR” Hawkes, 74 passed away suddenly of a heart attack, December 8, 2018 at his home in North Logan while preparing his tractor to plow snow for the season. He was born February 18, 1944 in Preston, Idaho to Roma Luthy and Leo Rogers Hawkes. He attended Preston High school, served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Scotland and graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Zoology and Chemistry. While at Utah State he met and married his best friend Brenda Fisher. They were married on June 16, 1967 in the Los Angeles, CA Temple. He attended medical school at the University of Utah where he became board certified in both pediatrics and anesthesia. He practiced medicine in Logan, UT from July 1980 until his retirement in December of 2009. He loved his profession, and thoroughly enjoyed the people he worked with. JR was also involved in starting, investing in and assisting many successful businesses with his children and business partners.
He loved tending his land and spending time at his cabin home in the Bitterroot Mountains of Montana. He loved tractors, chainsaws, mental games and funny movies. He had strong principles, an unrivaled work ethic and an astonishing memory. Above all, he loved and was so proud of his children. We will miss his wit and never ending jokes, but mostly his entertaining and contagious laugh and the faithful companion he was to our mom.
He was preceded in death by a sister, a brother and an infant grandson (Ace). He is survived by his wife Brenda and six children, Steven (Caroline) of Hamilton, Montana, Brian (April) of Hamilton, Montana, Sarah (Greg) Crosby of Kaysville, UT, Darin (Kristalee) of Mountain Green, UT, Rachel (Greg) Brenchley of St. George, UT, and Adam (Kristine) of Millville, UT, 23 grandchildren and a brother.
