Jackie Dee Orton

October 2, 1937 — November 24, 2022

On November 24, 2022 our father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully.

Born October 2, 1937 in Panguitch, Utah to Preston Dee and Althea Thompson Fridaye, Jackie was the second of four kids. He grew up in Delta, Utah where he was active in sports. In 1955, during his high school senior year, he earned the title of Wrestling All-State Champion in the 133-pound weight class.
Following graduation from Delta High School, Jackie enlisted in the Marine Corps. He reported to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California. He served three years and spent time living in Japan and the Philippines.

On April 1, 1966 Jackie married the love of his life, Carolyn Burton in the Salt Lake Temple. They had five children. He loved life and his family. He spent time flying gliders, camping in the mountains and bowhunting with his boys. He frequently took his grandkids golfing and on long road trips.

In 1996 Jackie retired from DuPont where he spent 35 years working in sales and marketing. His employment allowed him to travel all over the United States.

Jackie was a dedicated and faithful member of The Church of Jesus of Latter-day Saints. He was blessed to have served as Bishop three different times. He was a Scout Master, Sunday School teacher, Stake High Counselor and served in a Stake Presidency. Later in life he served three full-time missions with his wife Carolyn. They went to Alaska together where he presided as president of the Alaska Anchorage Mission. Later they went on temple missions to Tokyo and London and served several years in the Logan temple—all while working as a temple sealer.

Jackie had other opportunities to serve. For four years, he worked on the Wellsville City Council. As a proud veteran he spent time working with the Marines and Toys for Tots during the Christmas season.

Following the unexpected death of Carolyn in 2018, Jackie married Barbara Kenny. She has been a wonderful companion these last years.

He was preceded in death by Preston Dee Orton (father), Althea Thompson Fridaye (mother), Emma Dee Houston (sister), Carey J. Orton (son).

Jackie is survived by his wife Barbara; his sister Merle and brothers Duane and Wally; his children, Nathan (Andrea), Rebecca (Chris Staley), Andrew (Stacey), David, Daniel (Summer); and 15
grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
