Jack Thomas Ferguson, 85, died early Friday morning, May 6, 2011, at
his son’s home in Hyrum, Utah.
Jack was born in Long Beach, California, on July 24, 1925, to Ted and
Lieta Ferguson. He served three and half years in the United States
Navy Armed Guard as a gunner’s mate 3rd class aboard liberty ships
during World War II. In conjunction with the numerous campaigns during
his service, he sailed around the world three times.
After returning from the war, he met and married the love of his life
Dora Belle Stone in Los Angeles, California, on February 20, 1947,
before joining the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He served
a long and distinguished career as a deputy sheriff before retiring in
1976 as a lieutenant with 27 years under his belt. Jack and Dora had
three daughters and one son. They traveled extensively throughout
North America in a motorhome and enjoyed their sunny Southern
California home in Carlsbad.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his brother Walter, daughter
Cynthia and grandson Jeffery. He is survived by daughters Anita Anne
of Seattle, Washington, and Nancy Elaine of Tuscon, Arizona, son
Thomas Stanley and his wife Cindy Lou of Hyrum, Utah, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at the Hyrum Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at
