Jacob Aikele Fuhriman, 97, died August 18, 2013 at his home in Providence. He was born December 20, 1915, the only child of Jacob R. and Olga Aikele Fuhriman. His parents were married 18 years before he was born. His father died when he was 17, leaving him to care for his widowed mother. He graduated from South Cache High School and attended Utah State Agriculture College.
On November 11, 1935 he married Valene Lee from Hyde Park in the Salt Lake Temple. She died August 22, 2005. He operated the 120-acre family farm in Young Ward until 1949 when he suffered an accident that forced him to leave the farm. Shortly thereafter, he went to work for Utah Farm Bureau where he worked for 30 years until his retirement. Always active in the LDS church, he served as ward clerk, bishop’s counselor, and bishop in the Providence First Ward. He and Valene served three missions together; two in Nauvoo, Illinois, and one in the Membership Department of the Church in Salt Lake City. He was as an ordinance worker in the Logan Temple for 30 years.
Jacob and Valene are the parents of six children: Reid (deceased)(Gwen) Las Vegas, Nevada; Deon (Roger) Cole, South Beach, Oregon; Frank (Ann), Providence; Blaine (Kathy) Providence; Faye (Richard) Nielsen, Kaysville; and Neil (Genene), Logan. They have 30 grandchildren, 88 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Friday, August 23, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, and Logan. An additional viewing will be held Saturday, August 24, 2013 from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the funeral at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS chapel at 155 North 100 East, Providence. Burial will be in the Providence cemetery.
