Jacob Ryan Randall, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away on Friday, March 29th in Logan, Utah. He was diagnosed with a glioblastoma, a very aggressive brain tumor, which was discovered a couple of weeks after he returned from a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He fought for 17 months with treatments including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy. We were fortunate to spend this time cherishing his humor, loving nature, and vibrant personality.
Jake brought light into the lives of everyone he met, and he was willing to be a friend to anyone. He forgave easily and did not allow grudges to infringe on his relationships with people. He has left behind many people who love him and cherish their connections with him.
Jake was born on March 11th, 2002 in Great Falls, Montana to Marque and Renae Randall. When he was a baby, his family moved to Hyrum, Utah, where Jake grew up and lived for the rest of his life. He excelled in school, and graduated from Mountain Crest High School in 2020. When he returned from his mission, he attended Utah State University in the fall of 2023. While he was at the university, he was able to take a class together with his sister, Ashley, and they enjoyed attending class and working on projects together.
As an athletic young man, Jake played on the tennis and golf teams for his high school, and he continued to play those sports in his adulthood. He loved to fish, backpack, and work on cars with his dad, Marque, and his brother, Josh, as well as their friends. Jake was very knowledgeable about plants and animals, even from an early age, and enjoyed spending time outdoors and growing plants in the family garden. Jake played both acoustic and electric guitar. He spent several years restoring a 1967 Mercury Cougar, and got a lot of attention from passers-by whenever he drove it.
In September 2020, Jake went to the Iowa City mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served diligently and connected with many people while he taught the gospel of Jesus Christ. He returned home from his mission in October 2022. Jake’s faith and trust in the Lord was an inspiration to his family and to others.
Jake has always been focused on connecting with people. He would spend time helping his dad work around the yard, fix cars, or organize rooms in the house with his mom. He often found his siblings in the middle of what they were doing and put an arm around them, or playfully wrestled with family members. He had a great sense of humor and brought levity and joy to our lives.
Jake is survived by his parents, Marque and Renae; his brother, Josh; his sisters, Alli and Ashley; and his sister-in-law, Megan. We love him and are sad that he has passed on. We know that he is with his Heavenly Father and many of his premortal friends now, and we look forward to the day when we will see him again.
