PROVIDENCE — James Leonard Bishop, 71, passed away
early Sunday morning 27 Mar 2011, of natural causes.
Born 28 Nov 1939 the elder son, and fourth child of
Leonard Louis and Agnes Thompson Bishop, in Tremonton,
Box Elder, Utah. He married Sandra Louise Call, on 04 Nov 1965 in the Logan Temple - Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Jim graduated from Bear River High School, in 1958. He served an honorable LDS Mission, in the Southwest Indian Mission headquartered in Gallup New Mexico. He spent two years in Germany with the US Army. He attended Utah State University for a short time, prior to his mission, and attended Dixie College in St. George, Utah between his mission and his military service.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served in the scouting organizations of the church, as well as in the Sunday School Presidency; as a Primary and a Sunday School teacher; as a member of the Seven Presidents of the Seventy; Clerks on both a ward and stake level and as a member of the Spring Creek Branch Presidency. At the time of his death he was secretary of the High Priest group in his ward. He was always a faithful home teacher, a calling he considered one of the finest in the church.
Jim is survived by his wife, of Providence, his four sons, James Kevin (WanChien) of Savage, Maryland; Wayne Leonard (Jewel) of West Valley City, Utah; Nathan Edward (Deborah) of Gillette, Wyoming; and Daniel Keith (Amy) of Montpelier, Idaho. He is also survived by seven grandsons and three granddaughters. He is also survived by sisters Phyllis Holmgren, Bear River City, Utah; Carol Christensen (Dee) of Tualatin Oregon, Helen Barrett (Stanley) of Kaysville, Utah and brother Steven Bishop, also of Kaysville Utah. He also leaves behind dozens of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Viewing will be at Allen-Hall Mortuary (34 East Center Street, Logan) on Thursday 31 March from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and at the Providence Stake Center (180 S 485 W., Providence) Friday 01 April from 10:30 to 11:30. Funeral Services will be at the Providence Stake Center (180 S 485 W., Providence) at 12:00 noon. Internment will be at the Garland City Cemetery.
