James L. Anderson passed away due to a sudden illness on Dec. 6, 2010 surrounded by his family. Jim was born Sept 10, 1949 in Sacramento, California. He was the oldest son of Shirley Mae Hensley and Ervin C. Anderson
Jim grew up in College Ward on the family farm with where he got his freckles and strong work ethic. As the oldest son, he was the leader of our family and an example to his brothers and sisters.
Jim was in one of the first graduating classes of Sky View High School . He was a member of the performing glee club and had a beautiful singing voice. Even the cows enjoyed his singing while they were being milked.
Jim joined the Marine Corps his senior year and began his service in the Marines as one of the “Few, the Proud, the Brave” immediately after graduation. His intention was to become a pilot, but because of his excellent marksmanship, he served in Vietnam as a sharp shooter. After his tour in Vietnam, Jim was stationed in Washington D.C. where he was one of the body guards for President Nixon at Camp David. As President Nixon exited his helicopter Jim was one of the first people he would see and would greet him with a “Hello Jim” as Jim in return saluted our Commander in Chief.
Jim was also a selected to be member of the United States Marines Silent Drill Platoon. He was recognized and decorated for his bravery and service to our country. After his discharge from the Marines, he returned to live in Cache Valley, a place he would always call home.
He loved his job as a long haul truck driver. He took pride is his work, and loved seeing America. Jim has innumerable truck driving friends and associates all across the country.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, especially when it included his Mom’s pumpkin pie. His stories and quick wit were enjoyed and loved by all who knew him. He was a friend to all and a staunch defender of those in any kind of need. If he had it and you needed it, it was yours. Jim knew no strangers, only friends he hadn’t met yet.
Jim enjoyed sports, beating everyone at ping pong, pitching for championship church soft ball teams, playing basketball with friends, and fishing the lakes and streams of Cache Valley (the fish somehow increased in size each time a story was told).
Jim was dearly loved by his many friends and family and will be greatly missed. He never failed to call to wish those he loved a happy birthday, and never left your company without giving you a bone crunching big hug and an “I love you”. Jim could always be counted on for a laugh that would tickle your soul, and a sparkle in his eyes that indicated he had been up to further mischief.
He is survived by and is the hero of his four siblings: Daniel W. Anderson (Ruth), Cindy A. Stettler (David), E. Todd Anderson ( Dixie ), and Darcy H. Anderson. Jim was preceded in death by his incredible parents.
James, we love you eternally. Semper Fi!
