James Ron Allen

January 13, 1931 — March 11, 2009

PROVIDENCE, UTAH: James Ron Allen, 78, of Providence, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009 in Logan following a stroke.

He was born January 13, 1931 in Cove, Utah the son of Grover Elijah and Francetta Harris Allen. He was raised in Cove on the family farm learning at a young age how to work and has since worked everyday of his life. He had many fond memories of his early days with his family and friends of Cove. He graduated from North Cache High School in 1949. He was called on an LDS Mission to the Northwestern States Mission in 1950 but soon after that he was drafted into the US Air Force. Following the service in 1954 Jim returned to Logan and attended Utah State Agriculture College where he met a wonderful girl. He married Barbara Faye Rash on June 10, 1955 in the Logan LDS Temple Together they left for San Francisco, California where he then graduated from the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science. His first job as an apprentice was with Larkin Mortuary in Salt Lake City where he worked for 20 years. He lived and raised his family in Bountiful where he enjoyed his years there until he left in 1975 and moved to Logan where he purchased the Hall Mortuary from Loyal Hall. Jim loved his work in the funeral industry and looked forward to going to work everyday.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he has served as home teacher, High Councilor and Bishop. He was a member of the Logan Rotary Club for over 30 years. He had served as President of the Utah Funeral Directors Association and also served on the board of directors of Logan Savings.

Jim loved to travel with his wife over their many years together and enjoyed going to Yellowstone with his children and grandchildren fishing every Father’s Day weekend. He was a big Smithfield Blue Sox fan and loved to go watch his son Jodi play ball. He could be seen out working in his yard, garden and pond in the summers.

He is survived by his wife Faye Allen, Providence; three sons, J. Jeffery and Lynda C. Allen, Providence; Jason R. and Lisa Bowen Allen, Logan; Jodi S. Allen, Ogden Canyon, Utah; 10 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two brothers, Joseph S. and Mary Lou Allen, North Ogden; Gib and Adrea Allen, Lethbridge, Alberta;; four sisters, Edris Mickelson, Redmond, Utah; Leora Giles, Provo, Utah; Nadean and Alton Buttars, Preston, ID; Ruth Robertson, Providence, Utah, and a sister-in-law, Carol Lee Allen, Preston, Idaho. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jared, two brothers, Harris and Bruce Allen.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 12:00 pm in the Providence South Stake Center, 360East 450 North in Millville. There will be a viewing Monday evening from 6-8 pm at the Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan and at the church on Tuesday from 10:30 - 11:30 am. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery with a military tribute by the American Legion. Condolences and memories may be expressed to the family online at  www.allenmortuaries.net
