Janel Anhder Curtis, 82, passed away August 2, 2017 with her husband at her side.
Janel was born June 10, 1935 to Irvin Anhder and Fontella Rose of Hyrum. She spent her childhood involved in school activities and work on the family farm. After graduation from South Cache High School, Janel worked as an administrative assistant for USU. Janel moved to Las Vegas to work as a secretary for the Nevada atomic test site, and quickly rose to be the youngest and first female executive there. Janel served a fulltime LDS mission in the Sweden and California missions from 1961-1962. Following her mission, Janel attended BYU and began work for a travel company that relocated her to Southern California. It was through her mission contacts in California that she was introduced to her husband, Archie Curtis. They married in the St. George Temple on April 24, 1971, and made their home in southern California. Janel and Archie traveled the world together. Later in life Janel returned to California State University, Northridge completing her bachelor's degree in English. Janel was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving positions in all auxiliary organizations and faithfully supporting her husband in his callings. Following retirement, Janel and Archie moved to Hyrum to help care for Janel's aging parents.
Janel is preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Fontella Anhder, and her brother, LaVarr Anhder. She is survived by her cherished husband, Archie Curtis and her sisters, Ruth Amussen of Indiana, and Rosalee Hare of New York. Janel is survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Janel's life was an example of unselfish service to others. She stayed true to her beliefs throughout her life and was an example of faith in the will of her Father in Heaven. The joys of her life were her husband, her cats, church service, gardening, and traveling. Janel improved everything and everyone that she came in contact with and her influence will be missed.
