Janet K. Speth

May 20, 1955 — September 14, 2024

Logan

It is with heavy hearts that we are saddened by the passing of our beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend. Surrounded by her family in her home in Hyrum, she stepped back through the veil and out of her suffering and mortal pains. There will be a huge void in the lives of all those who had the opportunity to know her.

Janet was born of good parents on May 20, 1955 to John Maughan Kerr and Donna Wyatt Kerr of Wellsville. Janet was the fourth of five siblings. Paulette (Clair) Gunnell, Steven Kerr, Ronald (Lisa) Kerr, and Brenda Kerr Maughan.

She married Kevin L Speth on December 12, 1975. They were sealed as a family in the Logan Temple in 1993. Together, through the years, they resided in Hyrum, Utah. There the two of them raised four awesome children. Kevin John, Monica, Tyler Ernest, and Amanda. As a mom Janet invested all her time and energy in making sure her children were raised in a loving home. They were taught to be an asset to society, through their actions, words, deeds and always stressed to them “hoe to the end of the row”. Her life was dedicated to be everyones friend. She lived to lift people up and was always a firm believer in love and honor. Janet would quote, “It is easier to drag someone down than it is to lift them up. Don’t be that person”. She was always making people feel important in her life, no matter what walk of life they came from. They knew they were always accepted, respected, and loved. She would always make you feel better about yourself and your challenges when you walked away. Janet lived by the the saying “You can always catch more flies with honey than you can vinegar “.

Janet leaves behind her husband Kevin and her four children and their spouses. John (Suzi) Speth, Monica (Karl) Walker, Tyler (Alexandria) Speth, Amanda (Dan) Jeffrey and 17 grandchildren that she truly adored and loved dearly. She is also survived by her sisters, Paulette and Brenda, and her brother Steve. She was preceded in death by her Dad, Mom and Brother Ron.

Janet was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme Brain Cancer in the fall of 2022. Janet worked many years as a medical assistant, and was very aware of the end results. Radiation and Chemotherapy is what comes with cancer and Janet met the challenge. She kept getting up and showing up. She did not surrender to the process, or fixate on the outcome. She would take the victories and defeats equally, getting comfortable with discomfort and continually accepting loss as a teacher, not a verdict. With a valiant heart and a strong spirit she fought for every breath to the end of her mortal life. Our lives are more meaningful because of Janet. Her legacy of being an advocate for love and compassion for others will live on in all who associated with her in this life.

We would like to thank her team of doctors and nurses at the Huntsman Cancer Center and the Gossner Cancer Center. And last but not least, the kindness and compassion from Bekah, the CNAs and the medical team at Aegis Home Health.

A funeral service will take place for Janet on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 12:00 PM with a viewing prior to the funeral service from 10:30-11:30 AM at the Hyrum 13th Ward 95 N. 675 W. Hyrum. An additional viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6-8 PM at Allen-Hall Mortuary 34 E. Center St. Logan.
