Janice Buttars

Janice Buttars passed away at the age of "39", her forever young self declared age, on Friday June 6, 2014 at her home in Logan after a two year struggle with health problems. A parapharyngeal Space tumor was removed from under her right jaw in 2012. This surgery left her unable to swallow and a hoarse voice. Her life since then had been constant nausea and pain.
She was born September 10, 1936, the second daughter of William Hess and Mary Arvilla Hendee Hess in Randolph, Utah. She lived in Randolph the first eight years of her life before moving to Lewiston, Utah.
Janice attended Lewiston Elementary School and North Cache High School in Richmond. She
completed her education in 1972 at Logan High School. She was married January 16, 1953 in the
Logan Temple to Gail Layne Buttars, also of Lewiston. Together they raised five children, Four girls and one boy. These children are Cindy and Dale Workman of Salt Lake, Debbie Ralphs of Logan, Keven and Jana Buttars of Logan, Janae and Russ Nielson of Winnemucca, Nevada, and Julie and Todd Finlinson of Logan. Janice is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two awesome sisters and brothers-in-law, Jewel and Blake Hyer of Smithfield, and Jill and Danny Hale of Newton, who gave her great strength through their love, support and service. Also surviving are sisters Dorislee Langlois of Boise, Idaho, Linda Bott of Eureka, California, Sharee Morden of Boise, Idaho, Michelle Henry of Fallon, Nevada and we cannot forget her little black French Poodle, Jocker, who gave constant companionship.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Cody Nielson of Winnemucca, Nevada.
Along with being a mother, she made numerous wedding cakes for friends and family along with doll birthday cakes. Another talent was sewing for her girls. Later she got interested in making porcelain dolls for herself and her daughters and granddaughters. She also crocheted and cross stitched items for loved ones.
Janice was diligent and hard working at every task or job she had. She made many friends during her working career at J.C. Penneys, Logan Savings and Loan, and the Bank of Utah. She continued working long after retirement age to associate with people and keep her mind sharp.
Together Janice and Gail did a bit of traveling with friends. They went to Branson, Missouri twice and the Grand Old Opry in Nashville once. They also traveled to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida to view a shuttle lift off. Basketball held a special spot in their lives, traveling to all of Keven's high school games, and holding season tickets to the Utah State Aggies and the Utah Jazz.
Janice was always active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holding positions in the Primary, Young Women and Relief Society.
Janice taught her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren unconditional love by her example and will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be on Friday June 13, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel, 34 E Center in Logan. There will be a viewing from 6:00 to 8:00 Thursday evening and 11:30 to 12:30 the day of the funeral. Internment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
