Jay Lowell Van Noy

Jay Lowell Van Noy, 82, passed away peacefully November 6, 2010, at this home in Logan, Utah, after a long and valiant fight against Bacterial Endocarditis. He was born November 4, 1928 in Garland, Utah to Charles Lowell Van Noy and Ada Day Van Noy. Jay married Sue Simmons on October 19, 1956, in Twin Falls, Idaho. Jay graduated from Utah State University in 1950. He is best known for his athletic prowess in several sports namely football, baseball, basketball and track and field. Jay was the last surviving member of the 1946 North Cache Bulldog State Championship Basketball Team. At the age of 16, Jay was given the opportunity to play professional baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals organization starting in Pocatello, Idaho and working his way through the Cardinals farm system all the way to the St. Louis Cardinals, where he had the opportunity to play baseball with Stan Musial, Enos Slaughter and the rest of the “Gas House Gang.” After his professional baseball career, Jay went on to coach baseball at BYU, where, he led the Cougars to two conference championships and in 1958, he was voted NCAA Coach of the Year in District 7. Once Jays playing and coaching career ended, he moved to Logan, Utah where he was the Logan City Parks and Recreation Director for 15 years. Jay was also heavily involved with the Northern Utah Chapter of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association serving as President for several years. This association provided scholarships to high school seniors for college and put on baseball clinics to raise funds for youth baseball teams. Jay was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt, golf, camp, and go to Aggie sporting events, especially in the fall and winter. Jay is survived by his wife of 54 years, his loving children, Mike (Becky) Van Noy, Debbie (Chris) Sandoval, and Sonja (Bryan) Fraser and 6 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Lowell and Ada Day Van Noy, and sister, Lois Garrett. Jay impacted many lives and he will be greatly missed.
We would like to give special thanks to all those who helped Jay in his fight, Logan Regional Hospital Extended Care Unit, Logan Nursing Rehabilitation Center, Logan Hospital Infusion Center, Intermountain Health Care and especially Dr. Michael J. Stones.
Viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah from 6 pm to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 12:00 pm at the Lundstrom Park 3rd Ward Chapel, 1260 North 1600 East, Logan, Utah. Preceded by a viewing from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. Interment will be at the Logan Cemetery.
