Jean Allen Jensen, 77, our beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully at the Logan Regional Hospital on August 17, 2013 surrounded by her loving family, ending a long, courageous battle with multiple sclerosis. She is now free to talk, walk, laugh, and run after suffering for so many years.
Jean was born February 11, 1936 to Ray W. and Dorothy Larsen Allen in Logan, the first of three daughters. She grew up in Logan and graduated from Logan High School in 1954. She had many great memories of her fun-loving childhood and her many friends. One of her fondest childhood memories was being taught in the sixth grade by her Grandpa Allen at the Woodruff School.
She attended Utah State University and was affiliated with Alpha Chi Omega sorority and was a member of the women’s Sponsor Corp. She was married to Rod W. Jensen, her devoted husband, on May 3, 1956, in the Logan LDS temple. They made their first home in Alpine, California while Rod completed his Air Force assignment. Upon his discharge they remained in the San Diego area and both were employed by General Dynamics Corp. Their first son, Steven, was born in San Diego. They then returned to Logan where Gregory and Kirk joined the family.
Jean was a sensitive, loving daughter of her Heavenly Father. She maintained her positive attitude during her long battle with multiple sclerosis. She never complained about her illness and always managed to brighten the lives of those around her. She was guided by a powerful yet quiet, moral compass in her life. Her optimistic attitude, sense of humor, and unwavering faith in her Savior Jesus Christ and personal testimony allowed her to accept the challenges she faced in her life. She was always the epitome of goodness and purity with a positive spirit and a great outlook on life in spite of her health struggles. She embraced all that was good and right in this world and always approached every challenge with grace, smiles, and laughter.
Jean lived with dignity and grace. She never gave up in her long fight with her illness. She always looked beautiful and radiant and was always a picture of optimism and laughter. Jean is a true example of living a totally Christ-like life.
She loved her grandchildren and their hugs were so special to her. As her disease progressed and took its toll, she never wavered in expressing her love for her family, friends, and those who assisted her. Even while her ability to speak was progressively compromised, she could almost always utter “I love you” to those around her and when her voice wasn’t there, the sparkle in her eyes said it for her.
She loved her Heavenly Father and held many positions in the church. Her choicest calling involved working with children in the Primary. Her singular focus was showing kindness and love to her family and friends. Her gentle words and unconditional love have blessed the lives of her children and given them an eternal anchor of strength.
Jean taught us many things by the manner in which she lived her life. She exemplified the many qualities that embody “Mother,” faith, patience, integrity and unconditional love. She delighted in her role as mother and grandmother and had a special bond with her three sons. No matter how busy her life was and how compromised her strength and energy became, she always managed time for her sons. Their bond is one of love and mutual respect. When her health permitted, she spent many hours teaching and playing with her boys, and was their greatest supporter in their activities. She never missed a game or a performance. She loved her grandchildren and felt badly when her waning strength would not permit her to hold them in her arms.
She loved the arts and was a gifted artist. Before she became disabled she enjoyed oil painting, golf, dancing and being with family and friends. With a friend she opened and operated a gift shop in downtown Logan for several years. Jean will truly be missed by all who knew her. She was our strength and our joy.
We will miss you so much, sweetheart, but take comfort in knowing that once again you will be able to radiate your beauty and charm, talk, laugh, and put your arms around your loved ones. Jean, you taught us so much by the way you lived your life. Because of your example, we are better people and will continue on in your memory.
Jean is survived by her husband, her three sons: Steven, Atlanta, GA; Greg (Jamie), North Salt Lake; and Kirk (Heather), North Logan; two sisters, Carol (Richard), Ft. Myers, FL; and Brenda (John), Salt Lake City; and eight grandchildren: Brittany, Collin, McKay, Kylee, Hunter, Kade, Halle Jo, and Kara Jean. Her parents preceded her in death.
Jean is also survived by her girls who lived with the family and loved Jean as they helped to make her life more comfortable: Natalie, Rachel, Annie, Samantha, Melanie, Brittany, Sydnie, Beth, Katie, Melissa, Bethany, Vanessa, Christine, Sherri, Samberly, Jalina, Carmie, Yi, Jana (Kade), and Jennifer. A mutual love and respect existed between Jean and her girls. They became part of her family and part of her heart.
