Jean Hall Stevenson, 86, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016. Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend will be greatly missed.
Jean was born December 10, 1929 in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Harold E. and Vera Gibbs Hall. She married Evan N. Stevenson on June 22, 1951, in the Logan, Utah LDS temple. They are loving parents to four children: Debra (Scott) Raymond, Gary (Lesa) Stevenson, Merilee (Val) Averett, and Doug (Kimberly) Stevenson.
Jean grew up in Portage, Utah with two older brothers and three younger sisters. She had a happy childhood with aunts, uncles and cousins she loved. She graduated from Bear River High School and attended BYU where she met Evan at a "matinee dance." Marriage, graduation and employment took them to Idaho Falls, Seattle, and Ogden, Utah.
In 1955, Jean and Evan moved to Logan as Evan began his professional career at Utah State University. Jean was the perfect companion as together they were role models to college students for decades. Jean was involved in the Faculty Women’s League. She and Evan were inducted into the USU Old Main Society.
As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jean faithfully served in many capacities throughout her life. She enjoyed her role as a Lambda Delta Sigma advisor and loved the students she worked with on the USU campus. Together, Jean and Evan fulfilled a mission to the Mesa Family History Center.
Her life was one of devotion to her family. She guided her children as they developed their talents and testimonies. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren filled her life with happiness. Jean found great joy in her son Gary’s recent call to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Throughout her life, Jean faced many challenges and taught her family how to endure with faith and courage. We honor her for the legacy she left.
Jean was an avid reader. She loved reading the daily newspaper, the Church News, and her scriptures. She valued her association with lifetime friends who supported each other. Jean had a sweet disposition, a righteous nature, and was truly an exemplary daughter of God.
Jean, above all else, loved her family including her extended family and in-laws. She is survived by her four children, sisters Norma (Theo) Coombs, Nadine (Robert) Woodhead, and sister-in-law Norma Hall, as well as 20 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Evan, her parents, brothers, Byron Hall and Roland James Hall, sister, Irene Garn, sister-in-law, Hazel Hall, and her son-in-law, K.C. Barton.
Funeral services will be at noon Friday, July 22, 2016 at the LDS Stake Center, 1295 North 800 East, Logan, Utah. Friends and family may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. On Thursday at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday prior to services at the church.
