On September 1st, 2011 our sweet, beautiful and beloved mother, Jeanne Kellett Maughan, peacefully passed away at the age of 84 at the Logan Regional Hospital. She is now reunited with her eternal sweetheart.
She was born in the family home on September 10, 1926 in Moroni, Sanpete County, Utah to Hilton and Relia Kellett. Her father was a high school teacher and they moved to Hyrum, Utah when she was a young girl.
She graduated from South Cache High School in 1944 and attended BYU for two years.
She was married for time and all eternity in the Logan LDS Temple on March 25, 1947 to Gene B. Maughan from Wellsville.
She was proud to be a member of the Peter Maughan DUP camp. She was very proud of her ancestors and enjoyed doing genealogy work. She loved working in the temple with her husband for many years.
She has enjoyed enduring friendships with her friends from high school, getting together once a month. Her friends helped her through the hard times after losing her husband.
Mom loved being a mother. She dearly loved her family. We have many wonderful memories of family parties and her homemade chocolates. She had a loving relationship with her parents and two sisters, Bonnie and Joann. She was an excellent quilter and everyone in the family has a handmade quilt. She will be remembered by her children for teaching us to enjoy reading, learning new things and love for the scriptures. She was active in her church. She served in two Relief Society Presidency’s, the Stake Mutual and at the age of 14 started teaching Primary. Together with our dad they taught the temple preparation classes for many years. She also sang in the ward choir.
She is survived by her six children, Relia Ann Maughan, Scott Gene Maughan (Robin), Twins, Jan Maughan (Cheryl) and Jill Campos (Mike), Rocky Maughan (Dixie), and Brenda Smith (Tab). She had 20 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. She will also be missed by her many friends. Preceding her in death was her husband, Gene B. Maughan, her parents Hilton and Relia Kellett, two sisters JoAnn Baldwin (Bart) and Bonnie Allan (Lamont), mother and father- in-law Clara and Geddes Maughan.
Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Sterling 11th Ward Chapel, 48 West 1450 South, on Wednesday September 7th, 2011 at 12:00 noon. A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan from 6-8 pm and from 10:30 to 11:30 am prior to services at the church. We will miss our sweet mother but find comfort that she is with her husband and family and we will be together again.
