Jewell Elaine (Hill) Larsen returned home on June 18, 2008. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at her home in Benson following a long valiant struggle with cancer. Mom is finally free from pain and left a legacy of courage and love for us all to follow.
Jewell was born on July 14, 1928 in Logan, Utah, the daughter of John Edwin and Viola Hill. She grew up in Millville and was preceded in death by her parents, brother, LaMont and two sisters, Wanda and Valay.
Jewell graduated from South Cache High School. She then attended Utah State University and earned a degree in English Literature with a minor in French. Jewell married LaMont Cooper Larsen in the Logan Temple, September 30, 1953. LaMont and Jewell settled in Benson where they raised 7 “pretty darn good kids”. Her husband passed away November 1997. She was a Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Mom was always kind and positive to all, and will be deeply missed.
Jewell worked as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell Phone Company for 30 years. She then taught at the ABC preschool where she was known as “teacher grandma”. She loved poetry and wrote many poems during her lifetime and had won first and second prizes at the Cache County Fair. One of Jewell’s poems was included in the Benson time capsule which will be opened in 2049.
Jewell is survived by her children, Jay and (Linda) of Smithfield, JoNell and (Bill) Hales of Sandy, Royce and (Wendy) of Benson, Kendall and (Jennifer) of Wellsville, Nedra and (Kevin) Moore of Logan, Sally of Benson, and Anita of Benson. She had 20 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
