“Gone Golfing”
J. Kent Nelson, of Logan, Utah, passed away suddenly at the University of Utah Hospital after a long illness.
Kent was born on November 19, 1940 to Ray and Leah Nelson. Kent was born and raised a “Cache Valley Man”. From helping his father Ray at the Herald Journal, to fishing on the Logan River, to eventually graduating from Utah State in 1963, he loved everything about Logan.
Upon completion of his B.S., he was accepted to, and graduated from Northwestern University with an M.D. (1966).
Upon graduation, Kent joined the Air Force (rank of Major) and served the men and women of this nation by tending to service personnel wounded during the Vietnam war, while stationed at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, CA.
In 1973, Kent chose to set up his GI practice in Salt Lake City, becoming one of the first physicians in Utah to practice Gastroenterology full-time. He practiced at the Salt Lake GI Clinic from 1973-1982.
In 1982, he moved his practice up to Bountiful, Utah. From 1982-2007 he practiced at 425 Medical Dr., being affiliated with Lakeview Hospital. For close to 30 years, he enjoyed and appreciated being able to take care of all of his patients.
Married to Carole Dawn Maniocha, later divorced. Later married to Anna Louise Carling. Preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Leah, and his brother, Larry.
Survived by his loving wife, Louise, three children, Karine, Kreg, and Karl; two step-children, Dale (Collette) Scow and Monica (Greg) Firth; four grandchildren (Alex, Spencer, Caryssa, and Zachary); six step-grandchildren (Amy, Ryley, Zack, Jace, Cheyenne, and Sheridan); two brothers, Alan (Gwen) Nelson and Vern (Patricia) Nelson; and one sister, Susie (Ron) Abbott.
A viewing will be held on Monday, November 17th, 6-8 pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main St. in Bountiful, Ut.
A second viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 18th, 10:30-11:30 am at the Eastridge LDS ward, 1350 E. Eastridge Dr., Logan, UT. Funeral services will follow at noon at the Eastridge Ward. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary, Logan, Utah.
Internment will be at the Logan City cemetery.
