Joan Evans Sealy

July 15, 1932 — September 28, 2023

Joan Evans Sealy died peacefully in her home on September 28, 2023, after an extended period of illness. She was born in Logan, Utah, on July 15, 1932, to Joseph and Bertrude Evans. She leaves behind a wonderful legacy of family and friends, including her children Steve (Yvonne), Kathy Mattson, and Melinda Olorenshaw (Lex). She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Ramon Sealy, in 2019, along with twin brothers Alton and Howard Evans who passed away as infants.

Joan was a magnificent and wise woman, as attested by all. She was affectionately known to her family as The Dali Mama. She attended Ellis Elementary, Login Junior High, and Logan High Schools. She and Ramon were married in 1952 in the Logan Temple. She attended Utah State University in 1950-1952. She was an active cadet in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) while in college, and loved her sisterhood experience as a participant in the Chi Omega Sorority.

Her early family years were spent raising her young children in Salt Lake City. In 1963 the family moved to Los Angeles, where she shed her shoes and winter wear, put on her sandals, and never looked back. Though every summer she trekked to Logan to spend lively and fun times with family and friends.

Along with an active family and church life, she worked for many years at the well-known Retooks Preschool. Her later years she worked as a trusted administrative assistant at Biff's Restaurant and UniHealth. As the wife of a Scouting executive, she spent many nights in the out-of-doors in the Grand Tetons and other beautiful surroundings. She frequently enjoyed camping and treks with close friends in out-of-the-way locations.

She loved live plays and Broadway shows, frequently sharing the experience of going to the theater with her daughters and grand-daughters. When she needed some downtime with a little pick-me-up, she relaxed in her home, and popped open a coke which she used as a chaser while consuming chocolate.

Throughout her life she enjoyed decorating. In later years, she loved spending time with her family, including many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Time together always included frequent shopping trips.

She was an active member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life, serving in many service positions. With her family, she lived in the San Fernando Valley for 42 years, then moving to Santa Clarita for an enjoyable 18 years until her passing.
