Joan Eliason Johnson
Our beloved mother, Joan Eliason Johnson, 69, passed away at home on April
7, 2006, after a valiant two-year battle with gallbladder cancer.
Joan was born on Aug. 5, 1936, in Salt Lake City to Newel Grant Eliason and
Lenna Maude (Allen) Eliason.
Joan spent her childhood years growing up in San Diego, Calif., Boston, and
finally Inglewood, Calif., where she graduated from Inglewood High School in
1954. She attended Utah State University where she graduated with a degree
in home economics in 1958.
Joan married Hugh William Johnson on Aug. 3, 1959, in Los Angeles. They
later divorced in 1985.
Prior to moving to Logan in 1976, Joan resided in Inglewood, Calif.,
Anchorage, Sand Bernadino, Calif., and Hesperia, Calif.
Joan had many interests. She loved the outdoors, particularly camping,
sightseeing and fishing. She was fondly known as ³Mrs. Branch² out on the
lake! Joan was a devout Aggie sports fan. She was also an expert seamstress,
cook and ³crafter.²
She was a dedicated member of the LDS church and thrived on service to
others, both inside and outside of her numerous church callings over the
years. Joan was particularly active in some of the local divorced singles
groups in the valley. She made many close friends over the years and
regularly opened her home to them for their activities and other events.
Most notably, however, Joan was a devoted mother and grandmother to her
family and a true friend to all who knew her.
Joan was preceded in death by her loving parents. She is survived by her
three children, Dr. Todd Johnson, MD of Price, Utah, Pamela Johnson of
Lafayette, Calif., and Melissa Johnson (Rosenthal) of San Francisco. She is
also survived by her younger sister, Barbara Clyde of Walnut Creek, Calif.;
and other including six grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to those who
accompanied Joan through her battle with cancer, including Dr. Russell Hirst
of Logan; Dr. Sean Muldvehill of the Hunstman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake
City; and Dr. Sterling Potter, Dr. Wayne Cox and Dr. David Nichols of Price,
Utah.
In addition, they would like to express their appreciation to all of the
nursing and other ancillary staff who provided hope and compassionate care
to Joan during her stays at Logan Regional Hospital, the Huntsman Cancer
Institute and Castleview Hospital.
Finally, the family would like to thank the loving and dedicated staff from
Alpine Home Health and Hospice Services, the Sunshine Terrace and Joan¹s
friends and members of the 25th LDS ward in Logan for making it possible for
Joan to spend her final weeks in the comfort of her home with those who
loved her.
Joan¹s funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the
Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center Street in Logan. These services will be
followed by interment in Logan Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to encourage those who wish to honor
Joan to consider a donation to a hospice organization of their choice or to
the American Cancer Society in Joan¹s name.
Dearest mother, we will miss you more than you could have ever imagined. Get
your lure in the water, keep the rod tip up and land the big one! ³We had a
good time.²
