1933-2013
Joann Johnson Bishop of Logan, UT passed away very early in the morning of November 13, 2013. She
was born October 9,1933 in Wenatchee, WA to Hillyard Alma and Ella Passey Johnson. Her early years
were spent in Washington before moving to Logan, UT where she began elementary school. Her father
insisted she be moved a year ahead because she was so tall for her age. Joann never slowed down and
held many jobs during her teen years, including helping her dad at their family business. Upon
graduating from Logan High School, Joann and her best friends left for Richland, WA in search of greener
pastures. Here she met and married Jess Desmond. They were later divorced. Second time was the
charm for Joann when she met and married E. Michael Bishop in 1967. Their marriage was later sealed
in the Ogden LOS Temple. They returned to Logan for brief stay and then moved to Germany where
they made, and kept, many dear friends. Joann and Mike returned to the u.s. but Germany continued
to beckon so they sailed again for a few more years. They eventually moved back to the states and
settled in Arizona for a short time, followed by many years in Newnan, GA. Joann knew it was time to
move back to Logan in 1993 to help her dear mother and sister after her father passed away.
While in Logan, Joann and Mike gained so many friends and blessings from volunteering at the Church
Employment Center along with serving as a visiting teacher for many years. Her devotion to her church
was exemplary.
Joann was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Michael, her sister Shirley Johnson, step-
daughter Valerie Bishop and nephew Mark Nielson. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her
step-son Gary (Lotten) Bishop, her brother Lynn (Pat) Johnson, nieces Jennie (Will) Jacobs, Jackie (Marc)
Vatsend, JayLyn Nielson, Joelle (Sam) Maughan and nephews Jim (Carly) Johnson and Jon (Heather)
Johnson along with 6 great-nephews and 3 great-nieces. Last, but surely not least, are her beloved
companions, Neuna and Gladys. Joann had so many close friends from all over the globe in addition to
countless friends and neighbors close to home in the Logan 3rd Ward. She loved you all!
Thank you to the amazing staff, especially Dr. Brown and Dr. Anderson at Logan Regional Hospital O.R.
and I.CU. for your loving care of JoAnn.
A memorial service and celebration of a life well-lived will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the
Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, UT.
