John DeHek was born on May 5, 1942, in Rotterdam Holland to John Sr and Jane DeHek. John and his family immigrated to the United States in 1950 when he was eight years old. John became a U.S. Citizen when he was fifteen years old. His family settled in Salt Lake City where John graduated from Highland High School. Following high school John enlisted in the U.S. Navy, after two years of service he met his soon to be wife Vickey and they married in August of 1962.
John was not much for hobbies but put most of his energy into serving his country. He did have a love for “Big Rigs” and was a semi-truck driver most of his life. After serving in the U.S. Navy, John enlisted in the Utah Army National Guard. He retired from the National Guard after 25 years of service. John and Vickey moved to Mississippi for several years, as that was where half of his family had decided to put down roots. During his time there he worked at the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department with much enthusiasm for the job he loved. He finally retired completely and moved back to Utah to spend his final years in the Mountainous Cache Valley that he and Vickey loved so much.
John is survived by his sister Marilyn McConkey and her three sons, his three daughters Debra (Doug) Anderson, Christi (Brian) Thompson, Kim (Trent) Reece, three sons, Stephen (Tiffany) DeHek, Brandon (Jenn) DeHek, Bryon DeHek, 26 Grandchildren, 18 Great grandchildren with two on the way.
John is preceded in death by his wife Vickey, his parents John and Jane DeHek and one granddaughter Melissa Thompson.
There will be a small intimate family graveside service with Military Honors at a later date.
We would like to also thank the staff at Cache Valley Assisted Living in Providence for providing the most professional care possible for our dad.
