John Bailey Kirby, 85, of Richmond, Utah passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 1, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.  John was born on April 10, 1939 to Evan Edward Kirby and Doris Bailey (Sorteberg). John was loved by all who knew him.

John loved being around family, golfing, hunting, fishing, camping, and baking yummy goodies to share and bring joy to others. He was well known for lawnmower and small engine repair and providing a helping hand to many families, friends and neighbors that he served. Dad entered the Airforce in July of 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1961. He was a proud U.S. Veteran and received a metal for good conduct while serving in the U.S. Air Force. He had a lifetime love of planes. John was known for his immaculate yard and large garden that he loved to grow and cultivate. He loved and served honorably in his church callings as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  

John married Dora O. Jimenez on December 20, 1968. They raised 6 sons together and later divorced.  John then married Cheryl Piper on November 11, 2005, and gained 2 step daughters.

John worked as an automotive electrician in Logan for three years, then served a mission in the Southwest Indian Mission in Arizona spending some time in New Mexico among the Navajo and Apache Indians. He then attended Weber State College to become an Aircraft Instrument Technician. His career was spent working at Hill Air Force Base and Thiokol, eventually retiring from government service. John also took on the role of Wellsville Cemetery groundskeeper so he and his sons could work and help maintain and beautify it for 4 years. He then worked at Inovar and later opened a business with wife Cheryl providing home medical supplies. John later worked as hospice Chaplain helping many in their transition with a kind loving heart and made many friends in the process. He always made sure his kids, grandkids and great grandkids felt they were deeply loved when around him.

John is survived by his wife Cheryl, sons Patrick, Evan, Danny (Marianne), Nathan, Scott (Cami), stepdaughters Kim (Dan), Piper (Scott), 26 grandkids and 20 great grandkids. Siblings Dwight B. Kirby (JoAnn M.) and Lesa Petersen (Jeff).

John is proceeded in death by Father Evan Kirby, Mother Doris Sorteberg, siblings LaMar Kirby and Raeola Holton. Son Brian Kirby, Granddaughter Hannah Kirby and Great grandson Jace Kirby.

Funeral services will be held at the City Creek Church at 150 S. 100 E. Richmond on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 12 PM. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral service from 9:30-11:45 AM. An additional viewing will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, from 5:30-7:30 PM at Allen-Hall Mortuary 34 E. Center St. Logan. Interment to follow the funeral service at the Wellsville City Cemetery 400 N 200 E, Wellsville.
