John A. Stocking

February 5, 1925 — December 14, 2015

John Archie Stocking passed away peacefully at the Gables Nursing Home from the effects of age and a good long life on December 14, 2015.
He was born February 5, 1925 in Burley, Idaho to Burdette Ruben and Mary Francis Ison Stocking. He spent his early childhood in Burley, Emerson and Acequia. His favorite childhood memories included a Shetland Pony named Bobbie.
During WWII, John was accepted into a Navy officer training program and was assigned to schooling at Pocatello. It was there that he first saw a pretty young lady named Eileen. After the war and her graduation, they were married June 25th 1946 in the Idaho Falls Temple.
John worked in the Animal Husbandry profession, and worked at Cache Valley Breeding Association/Select Sires for many years. He traveled as part of his work to 45 of the 48 contiguous states many of those visits by automobile. He was helpful in bringing longer, more upstanding and meatier cattle to the industry. He was criticized for bringing “horsey” bulls to the program, but within 2 years the industry was changing. After leaving Cache Valley Breeding, John started his own company and was self-employed for many years helping to improve cattle genetics and nutrition.
John and Eileen were able to fulfill a mission to the Philippines/New Jersey. They enjoyed working with the people and learning to love all that they associated with.
John filled many positions in his Church service. He was Sunday School Superintendent, Home Teacher, Temple worker, Family History consultant, and with Eileen they were dance directors for many years.
John was thankful for the promptings of the spirit. Following the promptings led him to have many spiritual experiences that helped to shape his life.
One of his favorite scriptures was in D&C Section 130:20-21: There is a law irrevocably decreed in heaven…upon which all blessings are predicated. 21. And when we obtain any blessing from God it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated.
He is survived by his 5 children, Deon (Jack) Pate, Burdette (LuAnn) Stocking, Kathryn (Mike) Abbott, Larry (Miriam) Stocking, Amy Siddoway, 27 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Vern Stocking, Doyle (Carol) Stocking, and Earl Stocking.
He was preceded in death by his wife Eileen Stocking, parents Burdette and Francis Stocking, his siblings, Aileen Stocking, Lamoyne Stocking, Winona Rasmussen, and Utahna Hurst.
The family thanks the health care professionals and hospice all of whom have given kind and compassionate service to John over the last few months of his life. John was able to stay independent until 2 weeks before he past away. He loved to serve and appreciated all who served him.
