John Albert Ellis passed away peacefully on March 1, 2012 at the Garden Terrace Nursing facility in Holladay, UT at the age of 89. John was born on November 29, 1922 in Shreveport, Louisiana. His parents were John Henry Ellis and Elizabeth Lawson Goldie.
He was raised in Caldwell, New Jersey and graduated from Richmond Hill High School in Long Island, New York in 1940. Following high school, John enlisted in the US Marines and served from 1942-1946 when he was honorably discharged.
He was stationed in Logan, UT studying radar technology for the Marines, when he met and fell in love with June Brimhall Clark, a student at Utah State University. They corresponded daily for 6 months and were married in West Palm Beach, Florida on April 23, 1944.
After being discharged from the Marines, John and June settled in Livingston, New Jersey and later East Hanover, NJ where they raised their family. In 1966, John and his family moved to Escondido, California where they lived before moving to Springville, UT in 1981.
John worked for and retired from RCA, where he worked in Television and Radio. Following June’s death in 1983, John returned to Logan and lived there 3 years until he met and married Jeneal Rasmussen Tribe. Following the death of Jeneal, after 10 years of marriage, John remained in Logan until May of 2010 when, suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, he moved in with his son, Keith in Salt Lake City.
John is survived by his children: Jo An Kammerman of Springville, UT, (husband John Kammerman, deceased), Gary Steven Ellis of Victor, ID, Dean Clark Ellis of Hauula, HI, (wife Lisa Bahen Ellis), Keith Andrew Ellis of Salt Lake City, and John Henry Ellis of Bremerton, WA (wife Shirley Pamittan Ellis). John was Grandpa to 26 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by Jeneal’s children Lori Lefgren (husband Jim), Bob Tribe (wife Claudia) and all of their extended family.
John was preceded in death by his son Craig Alan Ellis (wife Molly Virginia McElwain Ellis of Easton, PA); his daughter Jean Elizabeth Tanner (husband Joseph Tanner of Preston, ID) and his great granddaughter Emily Kammerman of Kearns, UT
John was a member of the LDS Church and served in a number of various capacities throughout his life. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Garden Terrace (especially Ricardo and Steve) and also the staff at CNS Hospice for their outstanding care of our Dad and particularly Maria for her special care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you send a donation to support Community Nursing Services (CNS) of Salt Lake City. CNS is the non profit organization responsible for Dad’s hospice care and services.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan. There will be a visitation with the family from 1:00 - 1:45 pm. Interment will follow in the Logan City Cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion and the Marine Corp Honor Guard. Condolences may be expressed online with the family at
