John Darley Murray
LOGAN- John Darley Murray, 80, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2009, in Logan, Utah.
He was born December 29, 1928, in Wellsville, Utah, to Henry Bailey and Mary (Mae) Darley Murray. He married Rena Maughan Leishman on June 18, 1953 in the Logan LDS Temple.
John spent all of his life in Wellsville, where he attended Floradell Elementary, Wellsville Junior High and South Cache High School.
After High School, John was drafted into the Army in 1951 and served in the Korean War. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in Ogden and Salt Lake for thirty years. He also worked on the family farm he owned with his father Henry and brother Oral. He was always a great example to his children of hard work and being dependable.
John was a member of the LDS Church and held various positions, he was very faithful in his duty as a home teacher.
As a young man, John enjoyed sports and played football and basketball at South Cache. He also played first base and pitched on a church fast pitch softball team for many years. He was a great fan of the Utah Jazz and he never missed a BYU football or basketball game, on the radio or television. After retirement he found a new hobby, fishing. He enjoyed being out with his friends on the lake.
John was a very quiet man, but those who knew him, knew of his sense of humor and that will not be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife, Rena, children, Christine (Bob) Lindley, Wellsville; Nolan (Lori) Murray Jackson, ID; Karen (Allen) Lyle, St. George; JeNae (Kim) Gittins, Wellsville; Mary Sue (Todd) Shelton, Mendon; Nedra (Dale) Lindley, Wellsville; Janice (Gerald) Nelson, Idaho Falls, ID; Jason (Konie) Murray, Wellsville; twenty-five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings, Pauline Peart, Salt Lake City; Oral Murray, Wellsville; Shirley Teeples, Sunset.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Boyd and Carl Murray, sister Mary Anna Whitehead and grandson, Terrill Lyle.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 in the Wellsville Stake Center at 12:00 noon. A viewing will be held on Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary and prior to the funeral on Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at the Stake Center. Interment will be in the Wellsville City Cemetery.
Our father, grandfather was a great example to us and he will be missed.
