John Karl Wood, died at the Logan Regional Hospital on May 16, 2008 at the age of 88. He was born in Millville, Utah on July 8, 1919 to J. Karl Wood and Phebe Ricks. The family later moved to River Heights, Utah where John grew up. He graduated from Utah State Agricultural College with bachelors and masters degrees in 1941 and 1943. While working on his PhD he met Margaret Wilson at Pennsylvania State University. They were married on March 15, 1947 in Kingston, Pennsylvania. Margaret passed away last August in Logan. He was a physics professor and he loved physics and the sciences all his life. He was employed at the University of Wyoming from 1948 until 1956 and he was hired as department head of the physics department at Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University) in 1956 and remained in the department until he retired in 1975. He was preceded in death by his sisters Virginia and Zella and a grandson Scott John Wood.
He is survived by his 3 sons and one daughter, James Stewart (Karen) of Salt Lake City, Robert John (Valarie) of Logan, Donald Karl (Julia) of Edgewood, New Mexico, and Elizabeth Keay of Pasadena, California. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Stephen and sister Patricia (Merv) Nielson in Provo and his sister Maxine (Ralph) Campbell of Mesa, Arizona.
