Jolene Anderson Mitton, age 72, returned home to her heavenly father on March 31, 2019. She was at her home in Wellsville surrounded by her family. Her short battle with a brain tumor caused some memory loss which made regular tasks and thoughts difficult but she never lost her positive and cheerful attitude.
Jolene was born in Ogden, Utah on October 8, 1946, to Irvin and Myrtle Anderson. As a young girl, Jolene grew up in Taylor, Utah on the family farm with her six siblings. She graduated from Weber High School in 1964. On June 28, 1969, she married her sweetheart Bernard “Buzz” Mitton in Elko, Nevada. They were later sealed in the Logan Utah Temple in April, 1975. They started their family in Ogden, and shortly after made their home in Wellsville, Utah, where she has lived for the past forty-one years. They are the parents of six wonderful children. Paula (Tony) Stauffer of Hyrum; Pamela (Mike) Collins of Hyrum; Weston (Sherrail) Mitton of West Weber; Melanie (Neal) Maughan of Hyrum; Marie (Jared) Fager of Idaho Falls; Daniel (Marcie) Mitton of Mt. Sterling, and stepson Mike (Brandi) Korth of Citrus Heights California. They have twenty four grandkids and one great grandson.
Jolene was a homemaker for many years, then after all her children started school she became a cook at Mountain Crest High School and other schools for many years. Jolene served in many different callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Jolene and Buzz served multiple missions at the Sixth Crossing in Wyoming, and Desert Land and Livestock near Evanston, Wyoming. They loved trekking with the youth and made many lifelong friends with their missionary couples they served with. When Buzz retired Jolene joined him, and they enjoyed their summers being camp hosts at Grand Jean in the Sawtooth Mountains in Idaho.
Jolene enjoyed gardening and grew many amazing gardens and was good at canning the harvest. We all loved her fried zucchini. She also loved quilting, and made many quilts for her kids and grandkids. She enjoyed long walks with her friends. Jolene had a way of making everyone feel special. Her friendship and love for people was deep and genuine. She was a people person and made friends with everyone she met.
Jolene is survived by her husband and children. She is also survived by her brothers and sister, Joe (Marjean) Anderson; Marsha (Tom) Moline; Mark (LuAnn) Anderson; (Kayleen Anderson); Dean (Robin) Anderson, and Terry (Trish) Anderson. She was preceded in death by her mom and dad, along with her brother Don Anderson.
Funeral services are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary and will be held on Monday, April 8th, at 11 A.M. at the Wellsville 3rd Ward building (49 W 200 S), with a viewing prior to the service from 9:30-10:30.
