Joseph Clark Evertsen

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, sibling and friend passed away Saturday the 26th of May 2018 due to complications during surgery to repair a fractured hip.
Joseph Clark Evertsen was born in Ogden, Utah on November 11th 1938. He was the second of 5 children born to Joseph William Evertsen and Eleanor McFarlane Evertsen. He graduated from East High in Salt Lake City and attended the U of U on a football scholarship. In 1958 after a 6 month courtship he married the first love of his life, Emogene “Jean” Nielson on March 29th. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on October 12th 1964. Together they had three children, Lisa Kay, Steve and Jennifer Lynn.
Joe was in the Army Reserve and while in pre-med at the U of U when he was called to active duty during the Berlin crisis. He graduated from the U of U with a degree in Marketing and accepted a job with Target Corporation at which time we packed up and moved to Minnesota. His career with Target ended up with us in Houston Texas and after 6 months or so he came home from work and said “Pack it up, we are moving back to Utah”. This was a big decision but was best for the family as we returned to our true home in Utah. After a few months he was hired at a brand new Piano factory in Logan Utah (Wurlitzer). He worked at Wurlitzer for 11 years and when they shut down, he moved literally a block away and began the job he retired from at Herff Jones.
In January of 2000 Joe lost his wife Jean too soon. It was a devastating loss for the family but Joe carried on and eventually in 2002 he met the second love of his life Ruthann Anderson on a blind date. They were married on the 31st of May 2003 and she was the companion and the love he was looking for and needed in his life.
Joe was an avid golfer and loved the outdoors. He also loved to fish and spend time with family. In the later years of his life, Joe and Ruthann enjoyed traveling in the motorhome. They spent 7 winters in Yuma as “snow birds” where they met many new and dear friends. He was active in his church and recently served as the High Priest group secretary in his ward.
We will always be grateful for our dad, for everything he did for us in our lives and everything he taught us. He will always be loved and remembered.
Joe is survived by his wife Ruthann, his brother Richard Evertsen, his sister Mary Kilby, three children: Lisa (Tim) Baker of Logan, Steve Evertsen of West Jordan, Jennifer (Brett) Jensen of North Logan, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Jean, his sister Nancy and his brother David.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 31st, at the Allen-Hall Mortuary on 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah; from 6-8 p.m.
A viewing prior to the service will be held from 10:30 - 11:30 A.M. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, June 1st at the Lundstrum Park Ward building on 1260 North 1600 East in Logan.
Interment will be at the Logan Cemetery.
