Joseph Robert “Bob” Smith passed away in Albuquerque, New Mexico, loosing his battle with cancer. He was born in Logan, Utah, August 14, 1937, to George L. Smith and Helen Carlson Smith. Bob spent the first ten years of his life in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where his father worked for Conoco Oil Company, and then the family relocated to Logan, where they co-owned Logan Laundry and Dry Cleaners.
Bob graduated from Logan High School in 1956 and Utah State University in 1961. After graduation he served two years in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Lewis Washington. He then went to work for Standard Oil Company, which later became Exxon Oil. He lived in Denver, Dallas, Albuquerque, and San Diego. He married Cynthia James in 1960. They had two sons, Robert and Steven. Bob and Cindy later divorced, and Bob married Betty Jo (BJ) Martinez in 1988. BJ died in 2004 from ALS, and Bob tenderly cared for her throughout her illness.
Bob loved his family and friends and would do anything for them. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing, especially with his boys, and one of his favorite places to spend time was the Yellowstone/Jackson Hole area.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife BJ, and his grandson Sutton Smith. He is survived by his sons Robert (Jessica) Smith of Albuquerque, and Steven (Tina) of Denver; granddaughters Stella and Samantha, and by his brother Gary (Kathy) Smith of Brigham City and his sister Charlotte Smith of Logan.
