Joyce B. Jorgensen

September 20, 1939 — December 13, 2013

Joyce Barlow Jorgensen, 74, passed away suddenly on Friday, December 13, 2013 from causes related to recent surgery.  She was born September 20, 1939 in Salt Lake City as the oldest of three children of Wayne H and Lois Hymas Barlow.  She married Keith Ellis Jorgensen June 25, 1957 in the Logan Temple, and they are the parents of five children.
Joyce's early life was spent in Utah, Idaho, and finally Spokane, Washington as her father pursued his career in accounting.  The Barlows were very involved in the missionary efforts in the Spokane area, and would feed the missionaries weekly.   Among the many missionaries who passed through their home was a young elder who was the son of their friends from Cache Valley, the Jorgensens.
Following his mission, Keith tempted destiny by letting Joyce's youth (as well as what he feared to be perceived impropriety due to his having been a missionary in the Barlow home) briefly dissuade him from pursuing a relationship.  Fortunately, his wise father pointed out that he would never find a better wife in the world, so he returned to Washington to explore the possibilities.  He and Joyce were married less than one month after her graduation from West Valley High School in Spokane, after which they settled in Cache Valley, where Joyce remained for the rest of her life.  Other than a brief stint in Logan, she and Keith have lived on the Jorgensen family farm in Amalga originally homesteaded in 1869.
Joyce has had a life-long deep and abiding love for and faith in her Savior Jesus Christ, which she demonstrated by living a life that can only be described as one of unconditional love and service to others.  She was totally and completely devoted to her husband and children.  She has served as president of the Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women's auxiliaries in the Amalga Ward.  For the past 25 years, she has served as an ordinance worker in the Logan Temple, with the exception of 18 months in 2000-2001, where she and Keith served in Menlo Park, California as missionaries for the LDS church in the California San Francisco Mission.
Joyce is survived by her husband Keith, of Amalga.  Their 56 years of love and devotion to each other serve as a wonderful example to their five children:  Michele (Brad) Dennis, of Mapleton, Mike (Jill) of Lindon, David (Yvonne) of Idaho Falls, Mark (Jerri) of St. George, and Tim (Kiri) of Bozeman, Montana. She is also survived by her 28 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren, her brother Gordon (Chris) Barlow of Crossville, Tennessee and her sister Cheryl (Matt) Clayton of Council, Idaho.   She was preceded in death by her parents and one great-grandchild, Bryce Wilson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the Benson Stake Center, 6575 North 2400 West in Amalga.  Friends and family may call on Wednesday evening, December 18, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan and prior to services on Thursday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Internment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to family, friends, neighbors, and medical professionals for their care and compassion during this time.
Until we meet again, Mom, we love you and will miss you!
