Joyce Hyer Kotter, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, in Spanish Fork, Utah, at the age of 96. Joyce was born on July 19, 1928, in Ogden, Utah, to Ariel and Anne Hyer. She was the second of four children, siblings, Paul Hyer, Blaine Hyer, and Barbara Montgomery.
Joyce married Cleon Kotter, in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their eternal union was the foundation of a joyful life. They raised six sons: Van (deceased), Rod, Rich, Quade, Dirk, and Bart.
Joyce had a deep and abiding love for her Savior, Jesus Christ, and a strong testimony of the truthfulness of the restored gospel. Her faith shaped every aspect of her life, and she dedicated herself to living as a disciple of Christ, embodying kindness, humility, and charity. She spent countless hours in service to her family, her church, and her community, always striving to uplift and inspire those around her.
Joyce and Cleon raised their family in Logan, Utah, where they created a home filled with love, laughter, and gospel teachings., forming lasting friendships and contributing to her community. Her enduring influence will be felt through the generations of her family and those whose lives she touched. She will be profoundly missed.
Joyce and Cleon served as senior missionaries in the Alabama Birmingham Mission strengthening the wards. They developed strong lasting relationships with the members.
Joyce is survived by her daughter-in-law, Alice Allred; her sons Rod (spouse Melanie), Rich (spouse Ronda), Quade (spouse Ann), Dirk (spouse Valarie), and Bart (spouse Melissa); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her extended family and friends who loved her dearly. She is predeceased by her husband Cleon, her son Van, her parents Ariel and Anne, and her siblings Paul, Blaine, and Barbara.
A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Logan Canyon Ward meetinghouse, 325 Lauralin Drive, Logan, Utah. The funeral will be preceded by a visitation for family and friends from 9:30 to !0:30 AM. Interment will follow at the Logan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of service in her honor to reflect her lifelong commitment to helping others.
