Joyce Nielsen Nielsen

November 27, 1927 — October 2, 2012

HYRUM, UTAH: Joyce Nielsen Nielsen, 84, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2012 in the Logan Regional Hospital after a short illness. Joyce was born in Logan, Utah on November 29, 1927 to Nephi P. and Evelyn Olson Nielsen. She was the 2nd youngest of 7 children; Acel, Carma, Darrell, Robert, Lynn and Wendell, all of which preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Nielsen Sowers.
Joyce grew up on the family farm in College Ward. She enjoyed telling her family the story of how she and her younger brother, Wendell, would “top” the beets during the summer while their older brothers were away in the service. She attended school at College Ward Elementary, Wellsville Junior High and graduated from South Cache High School in 1946 where she was a senior class officer, president of the Better Girls Club and participated in a dance group. Joyce cherished the friendships she cultivated during her youth and remained close to those friends through the years. While attending South Cache High School, she met and later married Paul Henry Nielsen on June 24, 1947 in the Logan LDS temple. They made their home in Hyrum where they raised three children; Karen, Dallan and LeAnne. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Joyce was a skilled seamstress, excellent cook and wonderful homemaker. She loved to crochet, knit and quilt. Each grandchild was blessed with the gift of a handmade blanket upon their birth. She actively participated in many civic organizations, including the Hyrum Literary Club, the Hyrum Civic Club and the Cynthia Benson Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers to name a few. She also worked for a time as a sales clerk at Maud’s, Ceenie’s and ZCMI.

A life-time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Joyce had an unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She faithfully served as ward Relief Society president and fulfilled callings in many other church auxiliaries. She found much joy working in the St. George temple as well as in the baptistery and as an officiator in the Logan temple. Along with her husband, Paul, she served a 1-year LDS employment specialist mission. Family was extremely important to Joyce and she eagerly looked forward to spending time with them at birthdays, holidays and other special occasions.

She is survived by her husband, Paul H. Nielsen; a son, Dallan P. (Irene) Nielsen and a daughter, LeAnne (Richard) Larsen; sisters-in-law, Maxine (Robert) Nielsen, Bernice (Lynn) Nielsen and Carma (Wendell) Nielsen; nine grand children and 15 great grandchildren. She will truly be missed.

The family wishes to express their heart-felt gratitude to Dr. Robert Nash as well as the wonderful nurses and staff at Logan Regional Hospital and Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation for all of their kind and loving care.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Hyrum 10th Ward chapel, 125 N. 400 W., Hyrum. Friends may call at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E.
