Joyce Dunford Petersen, 84, beloved wife, sister, Aunt, and friend returned to her Heavenly Father and the arms of her loving family on January 19, 2012.
Joyce was born September 17, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah to A. Bailey and Phylis Dunkley Dunford. Joyce graduated from Logan High in 1945 where she was active in drama and school plays. She was part of a trio in high school that sang all over the valley. This was an enjoyable time for Joyce.
She moved to Ogden in 1953 where she worked at Mtn. Bell, Walker Bank, and Citizens National Bank. She loved her years in Ogden and made many life- long friends there.
In 1979, Joyce moved back to Logan to be close to her family and her sweet mother, Phylis. She married Dean (Delroy) Petersen on December 1, 1983 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they enjoyed checking in on her darling mother each and every day. Phylis loved Dean and considered him a son, not a son-in-law. Joyce and Dean fondly remember this time as some of their happiest times in life.
Joyce loved her sweet sister Marilyn and considered Marilyn’s kids her own. She shared a special bond with her niece, Mindy Andersen, who was like a daughter to her. Through her recent illnesses, her loving and devoted husband, Dean, was a constant companion and caretaker never leaving Joyce's side. She adored and cherished her years with him.
Joyce is survived by her devoted husband, Dean of Logan, her sister Marilyn (Stephen) Eliason of Logan, 4 stepchildren; Debbie Scharbach Fry of Las Vegas, NV; Michael B. Scharbach of Smithfield; Sheridan G.(LuAnn) Petersen of Smithfield, and Ann (Brian) Jensen of Millville, 14 step-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who adored her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers; Mont Dunford, William Dunford, and James Dunford, and 1 sister, Karen Lockhart.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel, 34 East Center Street in Logan. A viewing will be held prior to services from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. Interment will be in the Logan Cemetery. A special thanks to Dr. Michael Stones for his compassionate, loving care and kindness to Joyce over the years. Condolences may be sent to the family at
