Joy Erickson Merrill

September 2, 1924 — February 27, 2010

Joy E. Merrill
Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Joy E. Merrill passed away at her Richmond Utah home February 27th. By her side was her adoring husband of 67 years.
She was born in Pasadena, California on September 2, 1924 to Henry and Signe Anderson. Signe passed away when Joy was just eight months old. Before she died she gave her baby daughter to be adopted by her best friends, Englebert and Victoria Erickson. Joy grew up in Richmond with her loving family, and true to her name was the Joy of their life.
She graduated from North Cache High in 1942. Joy married Guy (Edward) Merrill on December 30, 1943 in the Logan LDS Temple. The couple moved several times living in San Diego CA, Denver CO, and Kansas City MO, while Edward served in the military and completed dental school; after which they moved to Richmond and established a dental practice.
Joy was active in the American Legion, the Republican Party, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, dental organizations, and several church activities. Together, Joy and Ed raised three children. When addressed as Mrs. Merrill or Sister Merrill she replied “My friends call me Joy”, and Joy considered everyone her friend.
Joy is survived by her husband, Guy Edward Merrill, children; Vicki Daly (Jim), Reese Merrill (Elizabeth), Lorrie Jensen (Kirk), five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
