Julia Evans Berntson

September 24, 1931 — July 4, 2022

Our dear mother, wife, grandmother Julia Evans Berntson passed away July 4, 2022, in Logan, Utah. She was born September 24, 1931, to Ben and Afton Lee Evans. She graduated from Logan High School in 1949 and from Utah State University in 1953.

As a young girl Julia enjoyed many sports including marbles, ice skating, basketball, and volleyball. She won the Logan City Tennis championship. Her children took pride in watching their mom fast-pitch her way to several titles and numerous shutouts, including the Utah State Championship.

Julia married Dean Berntson in the Logan LDS Temple in 1951. They enjoyed 64 years together. The family spent many good times at the Berntson cabin in Star Valley, Wyoming. Mom’s greatest joy was her family and sharing in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She attended numerous dance reviews, piano recitals, and sporting events.

Julia was an avid hiker. Each summer she organized a weekly hike with friends, grandchildren or scouts in Logan Canyon. Julia’s family was kept busy on holidays delivering her famous glazed spudnuts to friends and neighbors. She had many interests: baking, canning, watching the Jazz and entertaining her children and their friends by riding her bicycle while sitting backwards on the handlebars.

Julia was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in the Primary, Cub Scouts, Young Woman, Relief Society and Family History organizations. She also served as a volunteer in the Logan Temple office for 8 years.

Julia was proud of her heritage. As a dedicated genealogist, she looked forward to meeting many ancestors whose lines she had researched.

She is survived by her six children: Paul (Ruth) Berntson, Nibley; Karen (Rick) Baird, Nibley; Annette (Trent) Peterson, Hyde Park; Carl (Stephanie) Berntson, Lehi; Bob (Nann) Berntson, Saratoga Springs; Janet Freeman, Roseville, California; and sister-in-law, Pat Hancey. She has 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Julia was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Sid and Sherm Evans, a sister Marlene Hill and a grandson Ben Berntson.

Funeral services will be held at noon on July 16 at Allen-Hall Mortuary.
The family will meet friends from 10:00 am to 11:45 am prior to services.

The family would like to thank CNS Hospice and all of the caregivers at Terrace Grove for their loving kindness and compassion shown to our mother. Condolences may be shared online at www.allenmortuaries.net
