Julia Whitney Rawlins

Julia W. Rawlins
On May 11, 2013, Julia Whitney Rawlins passed away in her Lewiston, Utah home. On March 5, 1923, Julia came backwards into the world to her loving parents George Fenton and Lettie Tobler Whitney. She always stated that she was born under Lake Mead, in the town of St. Thomas, Nevada. At the age of 10, she moved to Hurricane, Utah and grew up romping in the red hills. During WWII she went to California and welded practice bombs. When she returned to Utah, she attended Utah State University. It was there that she met her husband, Lindsay Rawlins. They were married April 2, 1946. After she had ten children, she went back to USU to finish her degree and taught at Smithfield elementary for 22 years. After retirement, she and her husband went on a mission to the Los Angeles Temple visitors' center then served in the Logan Temple.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lindsay Rawlins who passed away March 19, 1994, her parents, Lloyd Whitney (brother), Wilma Adams and Dorothy Hawkins (sisters). She is survived by siblings; Venice and Ken Spendlove, Anna and Don Appel, Beth Johnson, John and Jewel Whitney, LuRae Brown, and Janice Ruesch.
Her children are Ray and Rosemary Rawlins, Glen and Rita Rawlins, Nada and Gary Wilkins, Jed and Peggy Rawlins, Judy and Leroy Ball, Neil and Chris Rawlins, Craig and Lori Rawlins, Mark and Kerri Rawlins, Nancy Tobler, Gary Rawlins. 36 grandchildren , 49 great grandchildren. She is loved by her family. We miss her smile, sewing talent, garden expertise, genealogical knowledge, stories, and gentle way of instructing.
Julia and her family want to thank her friends, her ward family, and all the many caregivers.
Viewing at the Nelson Funeral Home in Smithfield (85 South Main) Thursday from 6 -8 PM. Funeral at the Lewiston First Ward Chapel (10 South 1600 West) with a viewing from 8:30-10:30 AM at the church, service 11:00 AM. Burial will be in the Lewiston Cemetery.
