Julia passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024. Julia was born on December 30, 1923 to Louis Elbert and Julia Alice Thompson in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Julia spent her childhood and youth growing up with her 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
In her early twenties, she worked at the local movie house ticket booth. She caught the eye of a handsome U.S. Air Force pilot who was stationed at nearby Seymore Johnson Air Force base. After a quick courtship, they were married on June 16, 1945. They stayed in Goldsboro for a couple of years and then moved to Logan, Utah. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and they were sealed shortly afterwards in the Logan temple on October 24, 1950.
Reid and Julia had 2 children, Lucinda (Cindy) and Scott. Reid was her treasure and best friend. They are remembered for never raising their voices at each other. Julia was a loving and dedicated mother. She supported all of her children’s many activities and pursuits. She also worked at the County Courthouse as a recorder for many years. She was a faithful member of the church and served in various callings. She taught her children to be compassionate, loving, organized, disciplined and faithful.
She is survived by her two children, Cindy (David) Anderson and Scott (Beverly) Rice. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dixie (Lee) Bradley; 8 grandchildren, Kurt Anderson, Kelly Henderson, Jacob (Rachel) Anderson, Jenne (Chris) Stanton, Robert (Stephanie) Anderson, Brooklyn Anderson, Taylor (Amy) Rice and Lauren (Adam) Garcia. She has 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reid Rice, her parents, Louis and Alice Thompson, and her siblings Norwood (Gertrude) Thompson, Lucille (Colin) Grantham, Louis Pinky (Louise) Thompson, Desma Gray Thompson and Billy (Lillian) Thompson.
Funeral services will be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary on November 2, 2024 at 12:15 p.m. with a viewing at 11 a.m. Internment will be at the Logan City Cemetery immediately following funeral services.
