June “Bernie” Swenson
LOGAN, UTAH - June Bernice Swenson, formerly of Great Falls and Stockett, MT, passed away June 14, 2013.
June was born April 15, 1933 to Andrew and Jewell Greytak in Great Falls. She was the younger of two children, behind her brother Jim. June began school at Whittier Elementary School. When June was 13, her mother passed away and June’s father moved his small family across the street to Grandmother and Grandfather Sumpter’s boarding house. June attended junior high at Paris Gibson and graduated high school from Great Falls High in 1951.
In 1956, June married her high school classmate and young Navy man, Norman Swenson. June and Norman made their home on a farm in Eden, just south of Great Falls. Their family consisted of four children and lots of farm animals. June boasted the only farm animal to not spend time in her kitchen was a horse.
June and Norman parted ways in 1974, and June, along with her three youngest children, moved to Stockett. She worked for the Deaconess Hospital in Great Falls in the housekeeping department for 25 years before retiring. June truly enjoyed visiting with the patients and always had a smile and kind word for them.
After retirement, she moved to a small condo in Great Falls until health issues forced her to move to Logan to be near her children and grandchildren.
June’s favorite pastime was reading. She enjoyed getting together with her family and friends, watching movies and shopping. She cherished a lifelong friendship with the ‘51 gals: Willie, Billie, Bobbie and Sallie. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren. She was very quick-witted and even in her last days, could make a joke out of the most serious circumstances. All who knew her thought her a kind, gentle person.
June was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Jewell Greytak.
She leaves behind her brother, Jim (Bettie) Greytak of Helena, MT; sons, Ray (Anne) of St. Ignatius, MT and Jody (Ladet) and their children, Ethan and Kara, of Hyde Park, UT; daughters, Robin (Jerry) Besselman and their daughter, Breanna of Shepherd, MT and Linda (Steve) Sargent and their children, Erik and Kate of North Logan, UT.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 6, in the Highland Cemetery, Great Falls, MT. Croxford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
