Karen Eskelsen Cannon

November 30, 1935 — April 16, 2009

LOGAN, UTAH: Karen Eskelsen Cannon, 73, died April 16, 2009 at Logan Regional Hospital in Logan, Utah.
She was born November 30, 1935 in Brigham City, Utah to Ruel and Elizabeth Morrison Eskelsen the last of three boys and four girls. Karen spent the bulk of her early years in Brigham City and Logan while her father was in the army during WWII. The family spent some time in California and Oklahoma during these formative years.

Karen attended Utah State after high school where she met and married Richard Douglas Cannon. They lived in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Salt Lake City and Logan where their three children, Richard D. Cannon II, Ann Ogemaw and Marion were raised. Her three granddaughters, Brandy, Jessica, and Annora and even more especially her great grandchildren Abigail, Braden and Cidalee were the joy of her life and she will sorely miss the chance to spend time with JD. She passed her love of cooking and baking on to her granddaughters and spent many hours playing with her great-grandchildren.

She was active during her lifetime in a variety of community and artistic pursuits. She was involved in the American Legion Boys and Girls State programs as well as the PTA at the Ellis School. She was a leader in both Boy and Girl Scouts. She took several positions with the Ladies of Elks organization and was active in several Indian Based charities.

Her real love was in the creation and teaching of ceramics and especially Porcelain Dolls for which she received several awards. She proudly carried on the family tradition of the manufacture of Boden Candy and passed it on as a treasure of the family. Her tight group of high school friends was a great source of pleasure to her. She was quick to help someone in need and be a just and loving friend

She is survived by her husband Richard, children Richard II (Chuckie), daughters Ann (Ogemaw), and Marion; granddaughters Brandy Sutton (Josh), Jessica Gonzales (Luis) and Annora Smith; and Great Grandchildren, Abigail Norman, Braden Norman, Cidalee Smith and CD Sutton, brothers Quinn, and Richard, and sister Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother RM, and sisters Annora Gordon, and Elizabeth Peters, in-laws Vaughan Gordon, and Ruth Eskelsen (Quinn).
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:00 pm in the Willow Valley Ward Chapel (200 West 800 North). Friends may call at the Allen-Hall Mortuary Sunday evening from 6-8 pm and at the church on Monday from 11:30 - 12:30 . Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
