Karl Sorensen Jenson, 61, passed away June 12, 2006 surrounded by his wife Dixie and his children, after a courageous 10-month battle with kidney cancer.
Karl was born March 19, 1945 in Logan, Utah, to Marva and Orvil Jenson and was raised in Amalga, Utah. He graduated from North Cache High School in 1963. Karl served in the Eastern States Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1964, representing the Church at its exhibit at the World’s Fair. He married Dixie Lee Dunkley for time and all eternity, July 31, 1967 in the Logan LDS Temple.
Karl completed a bachelor’s degree in Business from Utah State University followed by an MBA from the University of Utah. Karl and Dixie settled in Logan where he worked for over thirty years as a Budget Officer in the Agricultural Experiment Station at Utah State University. Karl was the first president of the Professional Employees Association at USU and remained a vocal advocate for university employees throughout his career. He was also on the board of the USU Community Credit Union.
Karl and Dixie were blessed to be the parents of five children, all of whom are graduates of Utah State University and have completed or are currently completing graduate degrees.
Karl loved missionary work. He and his wife Dixie, served together twice as senior missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; first, as proselyting missionaries in the Johannesburg, South Africa Mission, and then as the Public Affairs Directors of the Southeast Africa Area.
He enjoyed Church service in many positions, serving as a Bishop, Stake and Ward Clerks, Stake and Ward Executive Secretaries, Stake and Ward YM-MIA President, Stake Mission Presidency, Stake High Council, Elders’ Quorum President, and Home Teacher.
Karl’s legacy is one of faith, hard work, professionalism, integrity, service, and unconditional love for all of Heavenly Father’s children. All who knew him are honored and blessed by their association with him.
His family members express their thanks to all who have supported Karl through their faith and love, and for the doctors and nursing staff that have provided care for him throughout the past months.
Karl is survived by his wife, Dixie Lee Dunkley (Logan), and their children: Deborah Grizzell (Matthew), Aurora, IL; Todd Karl, Logan; Katie Ann Sorenson (Michael), Clearfield,UT; Heidi, Houston, TX; and William (Ashlee), Logan and 11 grandchildren. His siblings all reside in Cache Valley with their spouses: Jeanene Hansen (Paul), Smithfield; Glen Jenson (Kathylene), Logan; Martin Jenson (Kaylene), Amalga; Lloyd Jenson (Aziele), Amalga; Steven Jenson (Jana), Smithfield. He was proceeded in death by both parents: Orvil Monson and Marva Sorensen Jenson.
A viewing will be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center in Logan, Thursday, June 15th from 6-8pm. An additional viewing will be held Friday, June 16th at the Cliffside 2nd Ward Building, 1350 Eastridge Dr. in Logan from 10:30-11:45, followed by funeral services at noon. Interment will be at the Logan Cemetery.
