Katherine (Kathy) Smith Davis, 62, beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2011, of cancer, at the Cache Valley Specialty Hospital. She left this world surrounded by her loving family.
Kathy was born May 30, 1948 to Charles and Barbara Smith, in Canal Zone, Panama, where Charles was stationed in the Air Force. She graduated from Preston High School in 1966 and then attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, where she met her husband Eugene Davis. They were married in the Logan Temple in August of 1967, moved to San Diego, CA, and later settled in Ferndale, WA, in 1978. Kathy moved to Logan, UT in 1998. Kathy leaves behind a great legacy in her seven children and nineteen wonderful grandchildren.
Kathy was active in the LDS church, serving as a Primary teacher, and also in a Relief Society Presidency. She had a great many talents, including floral arrangements, and baking. One of her specialties was wedding cakes, which were always beautiful and delicious. She made one for each of her children, many friends, and relatives. She was also a gifted quilter, making a special quilt for each of her grandchildren. She loved to travel, had a great sense of humor, and was well loved by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. She will always be remembered as a kind and compassionate person, always willing to share her time and talents with anyone who needed them. She had a very strong testimony of the gospel, willing to share her beliefs with those she came in contact with.
Kathy was employed as a CNA in a nursing home in Ferndale, as a pharmacy tech at Drug Emporium in Bellingham, and later as a school bus driver in Cache Valley, driving bus 33 (Cliffside) for Cache County/Logan City Schools. She loved her job, her coworkers, and most of all the children. She always went the extra mile to make them feel welcome and at home on her bus. She will be fondly remembered by all those lucky enough to have been on her route.
She is survived by her mother, Barbara Rinderknecht, her brother, Doug Smith, Her sisters, Carol (Mark) Gunnell, Julie (Marty) Bushman, Nancy (Wendell) Curtis, her children Darren (Melissa), Denver, CO, Lori, Vancouver, B.C., Bryant (Tami), Bellingham, WA, Kristi, Napa, CA, Kari (Bob), Walnut Grove, CA, Tyler, Coeur D'Alene, ID, Kyle (Haley), Bellingham, WA, her grandchildren Madison, Caleb, Simon, Janae, Kristen, Andrea, Louisa, Antero, Alexander, Chelsea, Tristan, Jackson, Sierra, Taya, Ocea, Maya, Briley, Hailey, Savannah, numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her father Charles Smith and her step-father, EImer Rinderknecht.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 22nd at the Fruitland Acres LDS Church, 465 N 300 E Providence, at 1 pm, with Bishop Tom Fronk conducting. A viewing will be held on Friday evening, January 21, 2011 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, and prior to services on Saturday from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, at the church.
